When Stranger turned six months old his previous old and forced to go live in another, rather It was a strange clan where he had come to live, where the dragons were organized in their cave-like lair not by color, age, or mate, but by rank. They frequently shifted positions as certain dragons took dominance over others. It was so alien, so strange. The only one who never moved was the mysterious she dragon. She didn't care about their petty fighting over ranks, she stood strong and proud at the back of the lair, not caring what others thought of her. She was a Skydancer, with a coat as white as snow, pure and clean. So beautiful, so strong.. why was she at the back of the lair with the hatchlings and himself? "I love you." The first words Stranger spoke to the beautiful Skydancer. No.. not spoken.. more like shouted. She seemed surprised, as well she should be, for Stranger had never said a word to her before this. She gave him a smile, and placed her claw on his shoulder. "Walk with me, Stranger." her voice was kind, yet sad. "I am not a creature worthy of your love or adoration. Each mate I have taken in my life dies. I do not wish to bestow the same fate upon you." the Skydancer smiled sadly. "Go find a better dragon than I." Her words hurt, but the Stranger felt the truth behind them. This beautiful woman could never love again. But still.. despite himself.. he couldn't stop loving her. He loved her in silence for the remainder of his time in the clan. Stranger wished he could stay in this clan forever, but the leader had only allowed him to stay in the clan momentarily. Even now in his new clan, he looks fondly back on the lovely Skydancer whose name he never did learn. |
