Biography
Gustave
Gustave is both an entomologist with an interest in insect collection as well as the clan’s lead insect catcher, who is sent out to refill the clan’s insect food stores. The problem with this conflict in interest is that Gustave can be a little absentminded, and often forgets which insect-gathering task he is doing at the moment. This results in a lot of confusion and horror as he finds himself pinning the most common and everyday insects, while turning around to watch his insectivorous clanmates happily munch on some of the rarest bugs in Sornieth.
Besides his scatterbrained strifes, Gustave is a friendly and helpful dragon with a curious nature. He is always happy to identify a bug for you and to list off a number of its unique qualities, even if it’s nothing more than a common housefly. He darts around his den and lab like a hummingbird, working on any number of reports and projects at once — a report on the role roaches play in decomposition here, a butterfly pinning there, adjusting the heatlamp over a clutch of moth eggs here, designing a poster for hatchlings on the life cycle of ladybugs there. Unlike many of the other scientists in the clan, his research has no particular focus, which fits the best with his inattentive and disorienting mind, and leaves him available for any number of projects at once.
Whether he’s in the lab or out in the field, he always wears his armor of chitin. Gustave believes strongly in the idea of “being the bug”; not necessarily to blend in, persay, but to make the bugs feel more comfortable regardless of what environment he’s studying them in. Gustave isn’t particular prepared nor suited for battle, and yet many outsider dragons see his armor and assume he’s a warrior. On many occasions, Gustave has found himself fleeing for his life due to this misunderstanding.

However, some dragons have been sly enough to sneak up behind him in time to watch him pop a handful of horseflies in his mouth, and wonder if maybe, instead, he has pursued this field to satisfy his stomach.
