Biography
When his clan operated a mine too close to a territorrial Maren camp, a raid on the enroaching dragons was conducted which led to the kidnapping of his egg. Before he could hatch in the depths of the Kelp Beds, however, a sudden burst of seismic activity from the depths of the Leviathan Trench sent him hurtling upwards towards the surface, where the resounding steam warmed his egg to a premature hatching. Disturbed and disoriented by the upheaval, the newborn was unused to the dizzying swarm of hot bubbles or the chaos unfolding around him and promptly lashed out, boiling the waters around him and threatening to cook the Maren alive - or in the very least, scald their kelp farms. This is how Scald got his name, and his anger. Carried upwards by the swirling currents below, the young dragon took his first gasping breath of air by the banks of the Churnscar Wharf, where he was quickly taken in by a fishing co-op who found that his water boiling abilities proved useful for driving prey into their trawling nets. It was a simple enough life for Scald, though he never could work out why he had gained the favour of both Tidelord and Flamecaller. Where was Tidelord, anyway? And why did these two polar opposites choose to spare his life that day? As Scald aged, his temper tantrums and explosive anger eventually cost him his place among the fishing dragons and he bitterly retreated to the coal mines of the South, where he joined a miner's guild and developed a way to power their drilling equipment with pressurized steam. However, this too was short lived after a bad encounter with an equally firey supervisor, and after storming off in the middle of a heated argument, Scald found himself in an abandoned series of tunnels that led down into the Entity's Domain. Tired of the surface world, Scald began carving out a solitary home for himself in these dark caverns, hoping to never be disturbed again. Until the day he met Kataigida. |
