Oiolairë was a Fragrant Tree that grew in Númenor, and especially in the western region known as Nísimaldar. After the downfall of Númenor, they were not found within the circles of the world. It was the custom among Númenórean mariners to place a cut bough of oiolairë on the prows of their ships, called the Green Bough of Return, as a symbol of good fortune.

Oiolairë is Quenya for "Ever-summer".

The Wood elves are a branch of elves that sought to return to the roots of their ancestors, and so they found themselves wherever they could find impressive nature, similar to that of the legends of their homeland. Their quest led them from the sea and deep into mainland, and the tribes settled to make their homes among the trees. Their colors are in general more dark than that of other variants, a natural occurrence born from a need to stay hidden, and from the influence of the shadowed groves in which they live.
