"Among dragons there is a condition that some are born with that limits scale growth. These dragons have few to no scales and are quite vulnerable with exposed skin. In some places of Sornieth many of these dragons will gather together to make a clan. Unfortunately this means the gene is almost guaranteed to be passed down to their offspring, but it does also offer a bit of safety in numbers as well as understanding."
