Biography
Most would shudder in fear at the sight of this massive Obelisk with haunting, glowing markings - even more so after they learn of his occupation. Yet, the public's perception of Decidit couldn't be farther from the truth. After all, there is a reason why the lingering presence of the dead find this dragon to be comfortable company in the world of the living.
Ever since he was a wee hatchling, Decidit had always felt a connection to the deceased, to troubled souls who have yet to move on. While his extraordinary sense drew him to these spirits, his empathy and kindness to the living drew them even closer. He hears all of their unspoken thoughts, listens to all their unresolved feelings, and acts as their anchor until they find peace, no matter if they choose to leave or remain and roam free in this world. Decidit's kindness isn't limited to ghosts, of course - the Obelisk remains a friendly, warm outlook to anyone who can see past his somewhat scary appearance. Yet, life isn't always kind to him - while grateful spirits are more then happy to lend him whatever aid they could, living dragons often shun him for his appearance if they aren't already keeping their distance out of fear. Even though he had tried to explain that his accessories were used to soothe the spirits he communicates with and his ghostly markings were natural, he couldn't help but feel lonely while trying to mingle with normal dragon society. That all changed when he came upon The Starchasers, a clan that not only accepted but appreciated his unique connection with the dead. Decidit's presence calmed any unrestful spirits in the vicinity, thus protecting the residents from potential harm. They welcomed him with open wings, and in return he was more than eager to tell them about anything he learned from his otherworldly conversations. Yet, even in his new home, Decidit still felt the pain of solitude from time to time - after all, no one could truly see or hear what he does, and while his work was appreciated, most clanmates didn't find too much else in common with him. The Obelisk was disheartened by this, as he was never able to fully show his affectionate and loving side simply because he was so different from the rest. He eventually passed through the Listening Lake and found a new home with a coven of witches, where his abilities were even more appreciated and even needed at times. However, even then Decidit never truly felt like he belonged. That all changed when he stumbled upon a kindred spirit - someone who can also connect and most importantly, empathize with the lost souls surrounding them. Someone just as misunderstood as Decidit himself, and even more secluded than he was. The shy, sad Wildclaw who had been silently trailing him one day out of concern for Decidit's safety would later turn out to be the object of his greatest affection. Decidit found his other half in Inferis, the necromancer who shared the same empathetic view about the ghosts and spirits left in this world. The Obelisk had kindly offered his assistance in Inferis's quests to communicate with the souls that he needed to summon for various reasons, and together they helped steer away trouble that would have otherwise been caused by restless specters. As they spent more time together, mutual affection and trust developed between the two, and the day they shared their first kiss was the day that Decidit finally felt his heart complete. The two now lead a happy, steady life together with the coven, and are almost never seen apart from each other. Their bond transcends words - the two have even adopted Niruida as their son, taking care of the Undertide despite his unique circumstances. |
