"Just because it's magic doesn't mean you can't innovate."
⚔ STORY
When soil is tilled often enough, when it is farmed for purpose, there is degredation of soil quality, the minerals it contains, the flora it can grow. It's the same for the soul, you know, overwork and anxiety and the repeated drudgery of life sucks all the verve out of any living thing. Part of the reason the Labyrinth is so snarled with plantgrowth is magic, and sometimes that magic slips through the thickets and finds its way to other, more inhospitable environments, to help the clans there cultivate plant life. Tingshen isn't one to simply accept the boundaries of something. A prodigal singer in a farming earth clan, he was never happy simply singing to the fields after harvest. Sure, yeah, there's a satisfaction in revitalising the earth, providing a constant food source, of course. But this magic is so brilliant, so versatile - doesn't matter the soil type, doesn't matter the crops you're growing, doesn't matter if you're singing to a seed or an ancient oak, doesn't matter the climate you're in, treesinging works regardless - and he just had to know if it could have other applications. (Maybe there's a little Arcane or Lightning in him somewhere, hm.) So he pulled up his roots and went a-wandering. He met Osprey and Aravi on his way out of the Lodge (having listened to Seven's warnings about not leaving the docks and, thus, surviving the curse) and they told him about their farming plot, the cycles they do with the seasons (such as they are in the canyon). And also about the endless sands to the south, the arid fading away of the plains below the farms. Tingshen heard this and thought, finally, a challenge. Nobody ventures into the desert and Tingshen isn't one to challenge that, but he is determined to find out how far he can push his singing magic. Can it be used to help dragons? Does it cure other things? Can it help those struggling with illness or anxiety or...? He must know. How does this magic of his interact with the prevailing curse? Does it get cancelled out like some of the other magic? Does it get absorbed? Repurposed? Is it feeding the pirrik? He has so many questions. And luckily, Aravi has a wide curiosity streak and is more than happy to experiment with him. Even if Osprey thinks it's unwise. ⚔ OTHER
