Gul

Mossfang's clan welcomed Vaile kindly. Staying in the clan for him was more of a break from the turmoil around him, since the dragons here lived a slow, moderate life, each minding their own business. Between searching for the next rare gems and trinkets with Venture and the dubious, occult practices of Anemone's dark magic, Vaille met Gul and Buckwheat, two of the clan's scientists and inventors.

After hearing Vaille's story that he often visits the Scrying Workshop in an attempt to imagine what he might look like with different genes than what he was born with, the dragons were imbued with sympathy for him (or a desire to try another crazy experiment) and decided to help him to make his dream come true!

After careful selection of possible genes, Flaunt's carmine patterns appealed to him the most. And after several weeks of extracting ingredients and making potions, the solemn moment of Vaille's transformation was a success! Delighted by such a good result, Vaille simply could not wait until it would be possible to transform his wings, and chaotically began to select the second gene.

“Bee wings?”, Buckwheat asked inquiringly, “You know, to create at least something similar to this, you need at least six months. Not only are the components terribly difficult to get, but the process of making this gene is very, very complicated. I'm not even talking about all the side effects that genes of this type carry with them."
"Come on," Gul chuckled, "Are you doubting our abilities? After analyzing the recipe, I came to the conclusion that the gene can be made in much shorter time period if we replace a couple of ingredients and change the formula itself a little. Oh, trust me, the result will be the same, if not better."
Buckwheat absolutely did not trust her, and frowned her scales.
"Are you sure this won't end in another explosion? You once tried to bake a pie in 5 minutes instead of two hours, and burned the hearth to the ground, and Moss is still rebuilding it."
"But it was a pie, not simple chemistry!"
"Do I need to remind you how many things you burned in the simplest chemistry?"

But Vaille was not interested in pies or simple chemistry. Hearing that the gene could be made much faster, to Gul's pleasure, he wished that she and Buckwheat would make it according to her recipe. Despite Buckwheat's fears and possible risks, Gul was able to persuade her to go for this experiment.
And to put it mildly...

It didn't end well.

"At least he survived. Hey, we're looking for the good in everything!", Gul laughed fervently, examining the black holes in Vaille's wings.
"I should have stopped you. But alas, I was too curious myself. Because of our fault, you had to go through this.", Buckwheat sighed heavily, "I hope that someday you can get Bee Wings without... All this. "

Nevertheless, Vaille was grateful to both of them. Mistakes happen, but he himself was impatient and agreed to a risky option. And besides, his body now shimmered with shades of black and red, which he could only dream of before!

And so, as soon as Vaille 's wings grew back together, he decided to continue his wanderings in search of new sensations and, perhaps, his dream of spreading bright, patterned wings.
