Sanhì is from the Huyutikaya clan, which reveres the nantang (viperwolf) and teaches their warriors to be without any fear of death. They paint their faces, hands, and feet white to represent the purity of their spirits, and often dress to appear like a nantang.

Sanhì in particular is part of a pack of nantang as his next step in warrior training. He travels with them, hunts with them, sleeps in the pile of the pack. Observing their cooperation and coordination in tracking and taking down prey, how closely they spend their free time together, how they feed the young first and make sure everyone is taken care of, and the lengths they'll go to for a pack member, inspires a deep loyalty and admiration in him, and a determination to live up to their way of life. He finds it easier than spending time in a clan and concerning himself with the common petty competitions he fostered with his peers as a child. It doesn't matter how much someone does or how well they do; they're a pack member first.

Sanhì came across Tarep's clan during his pack's wandering. While he discussed his presence (and his pack's presence) in her clan's territory, her daughter, Zusawkrr, returned from an aerial hunt and his pack immediately swarmed her. Despite her mother's alarm, they showed no signs of hostility - they were investigating her as if she were a long-lost member of the pack.
