The only child of an heiress and a famed lapidarist, Vayl was born with a silver spoon in their mouth and a thirst for greatness. They were offered every luxury a child could possibly want and every interest coddled. Alas, though, that children cannot sustain purely off of lavish gifts and open pockets. Vayl's parents were determined to spoil their child, but just as determined to neglect them.

They refused to let it become a deterrent. A fierce and headstrong child, Vayl dedicated themselves to several interests and crafts dictated to them by their parents--sewing chief among them. With an eye for beauty and a talent born of enthusiasm, they quickly learned everything they would need to become a world famous tailor whose works were desired by all.

When they came of age, their parents had arranged for them a marriage to a well-to-do older man. Nothing could have horrified them more. With no firm grasp of gender (despite their parents insistence to the contrary) and no interest in romance or relationships of any kind, the idea of being a trophy spouse was abhorrent. They convinced their best friend to leave with them in the middle of the night and have been living in Ellin with him ever since.

Such was a peaceful existence until the village blacksmith and a few of his lackeys razed the town, leaving Vayl for dead in the rubble of their library, surrounded by the smouldering remains of their creations.

But death was never the end, only just a change.
