༻Secrets in the Garden༺
Moss can often be found tromping through the bushes, flowers braided delicately into his white and emerald mane. Each step is slow and deliberate, much like the dragon himself. Through patience and a deep kinship with the natural world, he found himself the perfect lair space within the Everbloom Gardens. The peaceful glen lay unclaimed behind a protective thicket of tall brambles. It was the perfect spot to relax alone… until another dragon appeared, and then another, and another. Moss was far too gentle to chase anyone out. Thus, a clan of misfit forest wanderers was formed. The clan grew gradually like a young oak: unsure of a straight path to the sun, but reaching for the canopies all the same. Prosperity is on the horizon for Moss and his kin. Quiet and reserved though he may be, this Tundra cares deeply for his clanmates. They love and respect him in turn, grateful for his nurturance and protection. Following his leadership is an easy decision. The others know that his path wends its way towards a fruitful life.
This dragon’s favorite activities include luxuriating in the sunlight, witnessing the growth of the forest, gathering flowers to twine into his hair, and silent meditation. He cannot resist a raspberry pie. His sweet tooth mirrors his sweet nature. He adores the sound of wind whispering through the leaves and can often be found sitting on his favorite boulder each night, simply listening. He is an excellent listener in general. Though he might spend copious amounts of time deliberating, he always comes up with the most generative solution to any problem. The clan often avoids bringing petty disputes and smaller issues to their beloved leader. They know he is often busy with his duties, which include assisting newer dragons as they settle in, ensuring paths through the bramble patch are safe for hatchlings, chasing after Birch the troublemaker, and creating a sense of security for everyone. He did not expect to become a clan leader. He learns as he goes, taking his time with each and every decision. He wishes his clanmates would feel more comfortable approaching him with their struggles, no matter how simple. His desire to connect flutters like new leaves on a fresh, young sprout. His is not a commanding nature, and often the tasks of leadership do not come to him naturally. Still, he does his best— and he must be doing something right because the ‘thank-you’ gifts still haven’t stopped appearing in his den. Moss feels very bashful about his clanmates’ gratitude. They all know he deserves it. His capacity for empathy is unmatched. This is what makes him the perfect dragon to guide the clan. |
Broken becomes a new
Moss often feels responsible for the actions of his younger clanmates— especially Birch, the overly-enthusiastic Aberration that zips around the clearing at top speed. The other dragons wonder why the beloved Tundra gives the little nuisance so many second chances (and third chances, and fourth, and fifth…). Secretly, he sees a bit of himself in the incessant rascal. Moss was not always a force of patience and tranquility. In his youth, he was just as rowdy as Birch. This is something he does not often discuss. He feels that as a leader, it is crucial that he keep his past mistakes hidden. His wild youth is the reason he is such a slow-moving adult. Once he finished swaying like a sapling, he transformed into a much steadier dragon. He is soft, slow to grow, and can enjoy life on very little indulgences— much like his namesake. Birch and his ilk remind Moss to enjoy himself and have fun. Silliness is tantamount to any successful clan dynamic.

His most special relationship is with his lifelong friend and confidante, Gizelle. Gizelle was the very first dragon to enter the clearing. They found Moss sunning himself, laid out on a large, flat gray stone. Gizelle always says he resembled a sleeping mountain. They knew they weren’t in any danger the moment Moss opened his eyes. There was such kindness in his gaze that the Skydancer knew he couldn’t possibly mean any harm. Moss adores Gizelle because of their endless capacity for deep, authentic love. They love the forest. They love the skies. They love the singing brook and every dragon in the lair. The two of them are not in love, but they love each other deeply. It is a deep and delightful companionship. Moss is completely certain that Gizelle will always be with him, the way lichen wraps so gently around the bark of a tree. There is nothing quite like loving a poet. The clan leader is endlessly grateful to have such a steadfast companion by his side.
