Etymology: "Melli-" comes from mellifer, the scientific name for a queen bee (e.g., apis mellifer) and the suffix means "eater of" (i.e., herbivore, carnivore).




Once Mellivore consumes the queen of a hive (any hive -- doesn't have to be bees), he takes over the entire community, directing the workers as he likes. Once they die out (because of course Mellivore is not female and thus cannot propagate the species like a true queen), he moves on to another target.

At times, his skills are useful: when insect populations encroach upon urban areas and attack the unsuspecting or damage property, Mellivore is paid quite well for diverting and eliminating the threat.

But mostly, Mellivore is a selfish creature and enjoys being waited on by a veritable army of servants. And he's rather fond of insects.
