Wheatley is from Ice, but has always been fascinated by the histories and energies of other flights. He loves conducting trials and testing out theories, but unlike most other member of the clan, he is generally mindful of the consequences of his actions and does his best to avoid experiments with dangerous outcomes. He is easily intimidated, though, and is sometimes dragged into questionable situations by his more assertive scientific peers. Fortunately,his mate Petrel keeps an eye on him and makes sure he's not taken advantage of too often or too badly.
Wheatley has always been intimidated by the opposite sex, and Petrel is no exception. In spite of this, he has had several mates over the years, and is actually rather popular with female visitors from other clans. This combined with the fact that he is bad at explaining himself when flustered, has led to an occasionally rocky relationship between him and his mate.
His son and daughter-in-law have tried to dress him up to look more intimidating, with mixed success. At least Petrel appreciates his new, fiercer style?
"Oh, it would definitely be fun...but it would also be really irresponsible and dangerous."
Having someone near him while he's working makes Wheatley nervous and mistake-prone. His Silvermane Barbtail is an expert at holding so still that he forgets it's there, while also keeping an eye on him to make sure no one else sneaks up on him.

On team Autan with Lychinus and Ithir
Team Autan patrols The Shattered Plain in Dragonhome. Though all three are very competent fighters, they rarely see much combat on their patrols. Wheatley is fascinated by the history in Dragonhome, though he prefers to stick to the Plain, away from the larger lairs. Lychinus is fascinated by the rocks and the landscape. Ithir enjoys being in an Earth region, but like Wheatley, she prefers to avoid the larger clans. (Her reasons may be a bit different.)
