Panther had quite a few notches in his belt before he left the wildclaw tribe of his birth and set out on his own to start up a new tribe. He was joined soon by other expatriates from tribes near and far, and their tiny tribe roamed the land to find a place to set roots. The first nests of the next generation were laid and he, being the stronger of his pairing, was tasked with incubating the nest as his partner hunted for the food they'd need for the coming brood. All seemed well and the tribe felt that they were coming into their own, until the day that none of their hunters came back.

Those sitting on nests began to get apprehensive as their mates and guards began to vanish one by one. Panther's partner was one of a few who went out as a group to track down where the missing ones had gone, though that left the nests and the incubating parents unguarded which is when the slavers struck. With sheer numbers the tribe members with the nests were overwhelmed, and though he fought as fiercely as the rest Panther's struggle was futile as his eggs were destroyed and he was taken prisoner, along with the others who weren't killed. The surviving eggs were also gathered up, and the kidnappers slipped away with their prizes before the remaining dragons could return.

Panther was a prisoner for years, forced into work by his captors and separated from his kin. His spirit broken, he obeyed his orders without complaint, dreaming of what could have been every time he had a moment of peace. Dreams of freedom and following his own desires died as time dragged on. Soon everything seemed to dissolve into a steady stream of orders, work, and punishment, the events of day to day life melding into a gray blur. Then one day he was freed by a kindly group of dragons who sent him on his way to live life as he would as his own drake, but he wandered aimlessly for some time before it finally dawned on him just what he had been given.

With renewed vigor he began setting goals for himself, little by little forming a picture of what he wanted for his future. Settling in a clan wasn't really on that list, but when he found himself drifting toward that group of dragons again and again, hungry for companionship, it was their encouragement that got him to become open to the idea. As they were seeking clan homes as well, Panther roamed with them, watching dragons drift away one by one but never really feeling quite ready to join any of them when he considered it. He was still hesitant when his group began chatting up some members of a large clan called Amarayne, but when he heard that they had a penchant for attracting in wanderers and foundlings who had nowhere else to go, he found himself creeping closer to them until he too was among their ranks. His new clanmates were a little boisterous, especially when welcoming him in and asking about his past, but once he was given a quiet room all to himself and belongings he could keep for his very own, Panther knew he would grow to love this life.

Due to his years living as a captive with no agency, it is difficult for Panther to express himself. If he is annoyed, upset or hurt, he may keep it quiet under a mask of well-practiced stony calm. When he does express these emotions, they are very reserved. He won't explode into fury nor will he burst into laughter, but he has been known to collapse into silent sobs. With the help of his friends he is slowly coming around, and he now wears a smile on his face most of the time.

His few possessions are dear to him and were all bought with his salary--which he is also thrilled to now have. He will freely share them, but all the while worries that he will not get them back, and is tense until the item is returned. He is uncomfortable accepting gifts, but very flattered receiving them, and is absolutely giddy when he gets the chance to give a present to someone else. His little friend is his most prized possession, a companion the like of which he was forbidden to have even before his capture. He spoils his familiar, which he named Snap, and carries it on his back or in his arms everywhere.

He has trouble warming up to others at first, making most think him a cold aloof sort based upon first impressions alone. Those who dig deeper find him a warm, gentle and kind dragon with surprisingly little anger in him for the awful past he lived through. It takes some time, but the rewards of Panther's friendship are well worth it both to him and to those who've done the work to get to know him better.
