➔ before the waves pushed her ashore

• Would it be selfish to ask for someone else to share her fate? After all, despite everything, she still loved the sea, a calming mother to her tired heart and all her joyous loneliness. Perhaps someone else could learn to love this place too. She whispered to the sea for a kin. However, in all its tricks and malice, the universe granted her a stranger. Someone her heart couldn’t stop caring for, and yet was bound to leave too.

• “Don’t tell me you forgot we were supposed to meet. We had so many tasks to get done today. Where have you been? It’s late, come on.” She didn’t want to pressure her more, she knew her sister was sensitive, but she couldn’t help getting frustrated sometimes. ‘fate can’t be helped’ she thought. “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to get angry, forget that, I’ll ask someone else next time. Don’t worry.”

• “I believe you. However I’m the only one. We can’t change other’s hearts… you’ll get lonely if you don’t rid yourself of those flowers.” Her worry spoke before she could think, and immediately, she knew it had been the wrong thing to say, her sister had left the shore without a word. For so long she wished for someone willing to stay in these waters with her, it might very well be the first time she wished to follow them unto land instead.

• “Yet your hearts are so similar, ironic don’t you think? Do you think she leaned it from you?” She rolled her eyes, his perpetual carefreeness always got on her nerves. As if he understood her silence, for once, a serious expression adorned his face. “She’s not your only family you kn-” She didn’t need to hear that from him, “Then why aren’t you getting this family back together either? I think you know. The rest of our siblings are a lost cause. I moved on aeons ago, you should too.”

• “Still playing pretend family with that cursed child? Aha got you! That’s a joke! Sorry… it felt like a bad day to be serious, you’ll say that’s everyday for me I guess, but you know what I mea-”. She sighed, “Can’t you stop being yourself for once? I’m tired, I can’t play pretend family with you either today. If you need a distraction focus on your job”. He left with his usual cheer but he didn’t come by next day, or the day after. Unsent letters started to pile up ashore.

• She was sure of it now. She wanted to change. Apologize. This body confined her to the sea, isolated her, stopped her from chasing after those who walked away. She had to leave this body behind, somehow this thought filled her with sadness, “Grant me a new form in the likeness of my siblings. I think… I don’t want to look like a monster anymore. If the rumors are true, if there’s a curse out there… then I implore you. Choose me.”
