THE GARRISON

- worked for a different bastion lord
- entire staff was technically the same dragon
- left behind to defend the bastion while the nobles and upper servants fled, after virulent longships were spotted in the area
- they mutinied upon themselves after having a disagreement on whenever to surrender
- since virulent isnt very. chill to dragons that fight back
- so they walked in on them kicking the snot out of each other

- no, they did not stop or try to stop virulent as they broke down the gates
- this is the funniest thing the raiders saw all season
- everyone just sat there and watched as they tired themselves out and still continued arguing after they couldn't fight anymore





1 - alster - the captain

if his siblings don't respect him they're at least afraid of him
sees himself as the single brace against absolute degeneracy
alster "shaker, rouser"
- obviously something kinda wrong with him

2 - sanisva "blessed?" the starwheel

three eyed, rune brushed, horns curved to a near circle
an astrologist in the way only found in the isles, always seeing signs and counting calendars
- was in charge of enchanting stuff, maintaining wards, etc
- . . . broke the wards on purpose because he saw signs saying that the virulent attack would be a good thing, actually
- alster knows because she told him and he told her to keep that to herself
- he did probably tell the Virulentian leadership

3 - ataine "eater, gnawer" the butcher
- with how radioactive most arcane beasts are, butchers tend to be mad as hatters
- would be healthier if their siblings actually liked each other enough to turn into their dragon form, thus dissipating the magic
- works in the victualling yard because the routine/supervision really helps

4 - thasini "late, fastious, tedious" the apothecarist
- eyerollingly self-sacrificing
- the one that a good chunk of the others run to so they can wipe their tears
- wants to be liked and needed
- has no principles and modifies their personality to suit whomever they're interacting with
- a holyhealer of course, works in a public facing position as a pharmacist in the scrimshaw ward

5 - velvae "caner, thrasher, one who has a cudgel" the steward
self appointed manager of the bunch, always putting out one fire or the next
- lickspittle. sucks up to alster big time since he's the one that tells them all what to do
- so he's the one carrying out stuff he wants done. but is most guessing what that is
- resents the lost of power them moving has had
- uhh maybe like. a housekeeper for one of the scrimshaw matriarchs? he'd slime his way into someone's good graces

6 - sulunia "observer"

- greasy sweet talker, plays uhhh some form of stringed instrument & he's good at it
- hates alster
- was just a run of the mill footman and man-at-arms, which he abandoned in favor of loitering around scrimshaw forever
- plays bard, either by himself at the pomegranate palace or as the orchestra for shows in the blackblood's taphouse

7 - the forester
- took a running start towards the hunters and hasn't looked back once
- the bastion lord was allowed to harvest a select number of logs a year from the starwood and they were away from the bastion doing That at the time of the invasion
- thus had to be fetched secret mission style
- lives out in the folly logging camps

8 - mlithuns "sweet"

- the chef
- anger problems but by god can she make a good dinner
- frothing at the mouth while icing a cupcake
- it's so bad jorg vetoed her working at the kitchens because she's so mean to the other cooks
- she's a raiding cook now
- signing her aboard is high risk high reward

9 - kitchen maid
- do you know what having to work under mlithuns does to a man
- literally anything else is peachy keen compared to that
- currently in the cavern kitchens because guess who's banned from there!

13 - hiuls "owl" - porter/ferryman
- in charge of the small supplies boat which was one of the few ways on and off the bastion
- now a fisherman, having a great time south of scrimshaw among the jagged crystalspine seastacks
- no drama just fishing all day every day
- was seized by a longship and questioned as they approached the bastion

14 - baronis "strong man, lout"] footman/man-at-arms
- the head footmen of the three, because he could knock the heads of the other two together, not because he was good at it
- the bastion lord was more worried about raiders than good service in the starfall sea, so him having command over the other two as man-at-arms was important too
- too lazy to want to raid, is a bodyguard in one of the scrimshaw bars

15 - footman/man-at-arms
- threw the rock sulunia that took out his eye despite them both being on the 'surrender' side because wildcard baby
- their lords had taken all their finery with them when they fled, including most hidden stashes, but of the things left, she argued way more bravely than she ought have with the conquering raiders that she ought have had her share
- way too big for her breeches but it's funny
- went raider, of course

16 - footman/man-at-arms

- tried to flee on hippogriff back and got WRECKED by the cavalry
- well getting smacked out of the air and thrown into the sea and then picked back out and dropped at speed onto rock was uh
- virulent has disability and that's the bright spot


19 - smith
- doesn't know any of her siblings because she was sent away to apprentice in a blacksmithy as a pup
- and was still sent away during the invasion
- read about it in the papers

20 - cacula "soldier's servant" - dairy/scullery maid

- was at the bottom of the ranking as far as who had to listen to who went
- the arcanic archetype of nobly putting up with misuse and deriving satisfaction from how good you're bearing it because it's not like it's going to get better
- yeah she was on team get out of dodge
- got really sick on the boat ride back to virulent and was laid up in the ward for a month afterwards
- clicked with the holyhealers and got her training afterwards
- and now works as a nurse in the greater ward hospital out in scrimshaw
