Vega
"The Falling Eagle"
Role: Perimeter Scout
(Alongside his mate Betelgeuse flies within cloud cover to keep an eye out for intruders.)

"In the dance of our elements, our love shall be our greatest strength, soaring endlessly through the boundless skies."
-Betel to Vega-

[Origin]
In the vast Shifting Expanse, where the wind whispered secrets to the dunes and the storms blazed fiercely across the horizon, Vega, the freewheeling wind dragon, soared with effortless grace. Her sleek, serpentine body, adorned with a brown and black pelt and glistening robin's egg antlers and belly scutes, cut through the sky like a living gale. Vega was a creature of the air, embodying the freedom and fluidity of the winds she commanded.

Vega had come to the Rattz clan as a young dragoness, her natural talent for wind magic immediately evident. Her playful nature belied her incredible power. She could summon fierce gales and gentle breezes with equal ease, her mastery of the wind as innate as breathing. Qrow; the leader of the guards; quickly recognized her potential and folded her into his ranks, where she soon proved herself to be an invaluable asset.

The clan's smiths, known for their ingenuity, aquired specialized mechanojet equipment for Vega. This apparatus created arcs of electricity, and with the addition of highly conductive star runes gifted by the clan mages, Vega could manipulate them with her wind magic, creating dazzling displays of lightning. From afar, she appeared to be a native lightning dragon, adding an element of deception to her already formidable presence.

Vega spent much of her time high above the desert, following the wind currents in lazy, looping patterns. Her mate, Betelgeuse, an ice dragon of striking appearance and complementary abilities, often flew in tandem by her side. Together, they scouted the many canyons, salt flats, and rolling dunes that surrounded the Rattz clan’s mobile encampment. Their sharp eyes missed nothing, and their combined magic provided a perfect cover for the clan’s activities.

One evening, as the last light of the sun illuminated a coming storm, Vega and Betel noticed an unusual shimmer on the horizon. It was not the typical mirage of the desert but a group of travelers cloaked in illusion magic, their forms flickering in and out of visibility. Vega felt a twinge of curiosity and a hint of unease. These wanderers could prove to be intruders if they approach too closely to the encampment undetected.

Vega and Betel exchanged a glance, a silent agreement passing between them. Vega, with her a flair of her wings, whipped up a sudden gust of wind, sending a swirl of sand into the air. The sandstorm obscured the travelers’ vision, but the illusion magic held, their outlines still barely visible through the haze.

Betel took a deep breath and exhaled a wave of icy mist, which combined with the sandstorm to create an eerie, shimmering fog. The temperature dropped sharply, and the illusion cloaking the travelers began to falter under the strain of the cold. Vega’s wind magic, now laced with icy crystals, whipped around the intruders, making it difficult for them to navigate while also maintaining their spells.

From their high vantage point, Vega and Betel watched as the fog caused the group to become even more disoriented and stumble into each other in the feeble attempt to escape. The mages positions, now exposed, attempted to regroup. Vega, with a twinkle in her eye, sent a series of conductive stars spinning towards them, the arcs of electricity crackling through the air and forcing the mages to release their spells.

With the intruders disoriented and their illusions shattered, the Rattz clan scouts that were signaled by Vega's first maneuver moved in swiftly, emerging from the fog to lock on to the different targets. The mages, outnumbered and overwhelmed, were quickly subdued and easily chased away.

As the last rogue mage was seen fleeing over the crest of a distant dune, the fog began to dissipate, and the sandstorm settled. The encampment was secure once more and the scouts returned to their posts. Vega and Betel, their task complete, resumed their patrol, the thrill of the encounter still fresh in their minds.
