Dumuzid cowered, his form crouched around the twin eggs that he guarded. He gently rolled them into the makeshift nest he had constructed from scraps of tattered cloth; the last vestiges of great woven rugs and silken drapes that once adorned Dhunes palace. All that remained now were shredded and sun-bleached scraps that Dumuzid had carefully collected. So many of these things held memories of a life long lost to time. Some of the fragmented cloth seemed even to emanate the scent of incense or spices. Even the sands themselves seemed to whisper like the voices of the past. Dumuzid could hear them clearly and perhaps, so could his children.

The twins would not hatch here. Dumuzid always waited until he sensed that someone had come. Some traveler lost in the desert or an archeologist braving an expedition to explore the lost city. He tried his best to turn many of them away before Scarab found them, but this time he approached stealthily and slipped the twin eggs amidst their belongings. The travelers fled the city soon after. . . carrying their parcel with them to somewhere far away.

Dumuzid had decorated the eggs before sending them off, wrapping them in layers of small treasures he'd found astray within the city. Tiny diamonds and dark clay inlaid with gold. When the travelers found them, they thought them nothing more then artifacts that one of their team had slipped into the bags. Despite being twins, the pair were separated long before they were born - sold away to distant clans where they rested on shelves or in display cases, waiting for the full moon's light. When it finally came, the twins hatched alone, yet they still felt a deep bond to one another - as if they could still see through each others' eyes.

They found themselves fond of treasures, similar to those that surrounded their eggs. They collected such things, incorporating them into their own forms until they shimmered like statues embedded with gemstones and gold.
