Biography
Armillaria
|
Armillaria. She was found barely conscious when she first came to the Southern Icefield, wandering outside one of the caverns' entrances The clan took her in immediately, of course; they may not be the most welcoming, cautious even, but for hatchlings any risk is worth it. The sparkling, cold hatchling was carried into a deep tunnel where hot springs formed naturally in hopes the heat and minerals might help her come to. When Armillaria woke, the first things she saw was the bio-luminescent mushrooms climbing the walls. They seemed to her like stars. She reached a clawed hand out to reach them, laughing when the round head bobbed back and forth at her touch. She laid there for some time after inspecting the room and finding it safe. Armillaria could remember her parents, the face of her mother and her father's purple eyes, but not much else at all. She could remember the feeling of determination, curiosity - a mission perhaps? What it was escaped her no matter how long she laid there and searched. How long it had been in that time was unclear, but she still didn't feel ready when an Imperial entered the springs with a question, veined in dripping gold and wrapped in arcane ribbons. "Good evening little one, do you have a name?" Tobia asked simply. Armillaria was unsure, unable to recall one. Looking around at the springs and foliage, she pointed to the same little round head that first bowed to her claw. "What are these?" "Those are young Armillaria mushrooms, a little invasive here since their last tender moved on but still beautiful and useful." A drip of gold slipped to coat one small glowing cluster on the ground. "Do you not recall your name?" The great head tilted curiously, branching horns momentarily scraping the ceiling. The little dragon looked away to her pearl, a little frustrated that the answer was 'yes'. She watched how the world around her reflected in it, how those even smaller glowing mushrooms shined so bright like the night sky captured on her skin. "Can you just call me Armillaria, please?" Shyly she kept her eyes on their reflection in the pearl. "Of course, it seems you've thought on the choice, and it is a beautiful one. Come now, would you like to see your new home or meet some of our people first? Or, would it be best to see the kitchens first, you must be famished. This way then little one! You may cling to my tail if you find I move too quickly for you." They turned to the door, following the scent of fresh roastings. In the coming years, Armillaria was given the old journals of the last mushroom tender to encourage her rising interest in the invasive beauty of the hot springs, and she managed even to develop new varieties, some symbiotic to dragons! She enjoys alchemy in her spare time, and hiding away with Thenoir in silent company as they each write independent findings or study the Library's shelves. She rarely leaves the caves as the cold is terribly affecting to her, but once she trains an apprentice to tend her crops while she's away, she wishes to go on a gathering expedition to her birthland, Dragonhome. |
