i. once upon a time, a savant… ➔ before a dream could be built
• It was the beginning of an era where all things were possible for those like him, great minds were transforming small towns into great kingdoms all across the mortal world. His teachings were working. As expected, ideas were contagious, and he reckoned that ultimately some greed could be of use to common folks. Despite the quarrels of the other divines, tomorrow seemed brighter and closer than ever.
• Would his friend ever be able to see all that was created here? Perhaps. His mind usually didn’t preoccupy itself with what if’s and maybes. There wasn’t really much he could do if ultimately it didn’t work out, neither his inventions nor the most powerful magic could create the kinds of miracle needed to escape fate. After all, the laws of the universe were unshakeable, his dear friend was powerless to the whims of their own destiny. • Despite their contempt for common folks, all the divines bowed down to the same unknown. None of them would admit it, but at some point, they all had been lost, scared and hopeful. The universe, whoever it may be, wasn’t a benevolent force, and that fact he did believe in. It gifted dreams to keep some running, and created secrets to keep others lost. No one could get rid of a curse from the universe, divines or mortals alike. That’s why he refused to pray for answers. He’ll figure it out on his own. ➔ after a dream met his will
• A curious mind was a prerequisite to be an inventor of his stature. He won’t let any of that credit go to whatever gift, gods nor universe. He was prideful, but he’d challenge anyone on the verge of performing a miracle to act any better. If one day, he did manage to get his friend here… if they were both looking over those bridges and canals of his own design, he wouldn’t give a single thanks to the universe. He’ll create the world he wants to see with his own hands.
• The universe might smite him down, he wouldn’t be surprised. As he often pessimisticly reminded his friend, destiny was quite a cursed concept, it was dangerous to tempt it with grand declarations. However, being so close to see his goal accomplished, now more than ever, he was curious of what troubles tomorrow would throw his way. Watching over the still empty but mostly completed canals, his mind looked forward to come out victorious of challenges yet unknown. • He set out for his workshop to collect what was needed to do the task ahead of him, a task the other divines surely wouldn’t approve of. Who cares if common folks gained immortality, they weren’t so different anyway. Could mortals selfishly bring about disasters? Without doubt. Would that be any different from what was happening in the divine realm these days? Surely, it couldn’t be worse. Who would dare stop him from building himself a new home, after they destroyed theirs? |
