Aphexx was born on the edges of the Starwood Strand. He hatched at twilight, when the flowers of the trees were just starting to bloom, and so the first thing he ever saw was not the faces of his parents but the glittering universe above his head. The wonder of the Arcane seeped into him from the moment he broke the shell of his egg.

The young mirror was magically gifted, and was quickly apprenticed to the clan Healer in order to harness his power. Aphexx was a brilliant student, quick-witted and studious, genuinely enjoying every lesson he attended. He began to experiment on his own near his adolescence, fascinated by the magic that pulsed through his blood. He became an adept healer, but he learned how to use his magic offensively and defensively. He could use it to protect himself and others when needed – and he was excited about it. He wasn't afraid to tell any dragon who would listen. Whenever he learned something new he would parrot it to his clanmates, lecturing them for what could be hours at a time just because he enjoyed talking about it. But his excitement was translated to arrogance by many of the dragons around him, which made it difficult for him to interact with those around him. That contributed to his decision to leave the The Starfall Isles. Aphexx crossed into The Southern Icefield, exploring the Frigid Floes and the Snowsquall Tundra.

He traveled alone, taking in the beauty of the Icewarden's lands, practicing his magic and learning anything he could about the terrain and the creatures that lived there. He pushed himself too far, wanting to improve exponentially too quickly – but the magic overwhelmed him, crackled under his skin, tore at him and damaged him. It scarred his features and, horrified, Aphexx hid himself away and crafted a spell that would maintain itself, a spell to shield his skin condition from the eyes of others. His new skin glittered and shone, magic hummed in the air around him, and with it he was able to travel again without worrying about disdainful gazes from others.

The magic that twisted around his form unfortunately attracted creatures looking to see where the energy was coming from. It was during a heated battle with a Coarsefur Yeti that he found himself assisted by a Guardian – a Guardian who looked at him with such relief and awe that he actually felt embarrassed. His name was Opium, and after they had cleaned themselves of the carnage, they became friends. Aphexx was mildly uncomfortable with the idea of being the Guardian's Charge, but Opium was kind and patient, and offered him a home in his current clan, and so he agreed to stay by his side.
