A nomadic clan of dragons who worship deities of their own instead of the eleven, these gods were once normal dragons themselves, elevated to immortality by their actions and kept there by the prayers and worship of their people, without regular worship these minor deities will lose their powers and slowly wither away.

They are never truly mortal again after they ascend, when they fade they become husks of what they once were, unable to ever truly pass away they might be ghosts, skeletons or vague imprints of dragons but their consciousness still lingers no matter what state their physical body is in.

In this way, becoming a god is more of a curse than a blessing, as eventually, no matter what, they will be forgotten by their people, while they themselves will never be able to go to rest.


ACTIVE DEITIES

The Pale Lady
The Pale Lady is the deity of tragedy, she is worshipped at the beginning of the day, the middle and the end to ward off misfortune, dragons facing difficult of stressful times in their lives will pray to her more frequently. She is thought to be the oldest of the current active deities and there are records of her existence going back to the beginning of the third age. It is thought that through prayer and worship she takes all of the misfortune and tragedy of others onto herself. All dragons who worship the deities wear at least one item of thorns to symbolise her protection, nothing happens to them that she doesn’t permit. She is sometimes seen smiling and hovering around young parents and hatchlings, but can always be found at scenes of tragedy with dark eyes, as though lamenting the fact that she was too slow to take their place.

Most of her story has been lost to the sands of time, little is remembered about her other than the fact that she was murdered, by who? All of those who worship her disagree on the culprit, the only one who knows the truth is her youngest priestess, Aneira, the only dragon in centuries to have heard her name, and her story, right from The Pale Lady herself..

The Chauffeur Of The Dead
Nyx is the deity of the night and the guide to the spirits of the dead. She is notably the only deity born blind, Corvids of any kind are known to dragons who know of her as “The Eyes Of Nyx”. She is prayed to before dragons turn in for the night, after they have given thanks to The Pale Lady for protecting them through the day, they thank Nyx for the night. She is also prayed to when a dragon dies, they are wrapped in white cloth, embroidered with wings as homage to both Nyx and The Pale Lady, they pray for her to take their spirit onwards swiftly and safely, the dead’s bodies are cremated and placed in Corvid-headed urns. She is often prayed to by the parents of sick hatchlings, praying that she does not take their spirit, despite the fact she has no control over who dies. Nyx’s birds often appear around the sick or the dead, a visual symbol that she is with them, ready to guide them onwards. While Nyx herself is rarely seen, some have claimed to catch a glance of a pearlcatcher, sitting under a ghostly tree, surrounded by birds in the dead of the moonless nights, raising her pearl high like a miniature moon, to guide the lost away from harm.

Much like The Pale Lady, most of Nyx’s story has been forgotten by time. From what is remembered, she was born blind and had a deep, almost magic connection with birds. She fell deeply in love with an engaged dragon, the identity of which has been lost, in her attempts to get over them, she was swindled into a relationship with one she later found out was her love’s partner, by the time she discovered this, the dragon she’d been tricked by had already slaughtered her true love, claiming it was so that they could be together. Nyx in her anguish and horror, clawed their eyes out, much like the birds she loved so dearly, would do with their prey. The story of her ascension itself has been lost, but it is thought that she wanders at night, searching for the spirit of her lost love, desperate to make amends, or at least, to help their soul to rest..

The Trickster
Puck, is the lesser deity of chaos or mischief depending on a dragons interpretation, he can be cruel or benign depending upon which myth is recalled. He is normally prayed to by young hatchlings, hoping that a prank will succeed, but is also frequently prayed to, to prevent a partner from discovering adultery. Puck is also known as the deity of the dance, when worshiping him its common for dragons to dance while praying, he is prayed to for early springs and clear skies. By most dragons he is seen as the deity that needs placated, give him offerings and he wont make the soil your planting hard as rock, dance in praise and the storm will pass without destroying your home. He is one of the most unreliable deities in living memory, to most by the time they reach adulthood, Puck becomes the god you pray to regularly so that he doesn’t make your life miserable, there is only so much The Pale Lady can do to protect you in the face of misfortune brought upon you by another god.

Puck’s stories are varied and outlandish, no dragon really remembers what the actual truth, and Puck likes it that way. Did he lose his sight by fighting a monstrous three-headed tiger? An Emperor pretending to be a normal, injured imperial? Were his eyes slashed out by an angry ex-lover? Who knows! Well except him of course. Did he steal the heart of a beautiful forest spirit or… or did he tear down the tree she lived at? No dragon knows, however, one thing stays consistent, Puck is a charmer who has little care for those who fall for him after he’s finished with them, adultery is a very common theme in tales concerning him, of course dragons don’t know how much of these tales are true..
