Jake is a rarity. He did not come here with a sorry story. Berry bought him at an auction with the intent to use him as a model for Sylvari. When Sylvari finished modelling his new line on the skydancer, Berry introduced him to his father, knowing his father needed some help with the running of such a large clan. Modremoth took Jake in quickly, teaching him the way of the council, and Jake began to grow and develop a personality. Coming from high blood, he was taught never to speak out, to obey, bow the head, and walk quickly. Modremoth favoured these traits, but gently encouraged his voice until Jake was confident enough to speak out against things he saw. As a quiet skydancer, he saw many things happen while his boss' back was turned. With his new position to the Skydancer, Jake was able to warn his boss of possible dissention. It is because of Jake that everyone in the Tribe has started to take to calling Modremoth the King. In his opinion, Pyre was a queen, and Modremoth was Modremoth. Even though he ruled all of the Tribe, Pyre was deemed a higher royal class than him. It didn't take long to convince those already sworn fealty to start calling Modremoth what they had secretly thought for years. Jake enjoys his job, in the lofty aerie, high above the marketplace. He lives in Modremoth's private quarters, and despite raunchy rumours... He sleeps alone in his own bed. He is far too awkward to do anything more than fantasize. A boy is allowed to dream about his crush. Berry thinks that Jake holds a special place with Modremoth. Jake doesn't realise but the antlers and thorn crown he wears was an incredible gift, meant for only the closest of dragons to the King. Berry himself wears a pair, though they weigh heavily on him. Another dragon wears them in a mockery of the king, and the others purchase them in an attempt to get closer to the king. To be gifted a pair from the king himself... Berry thinks his father may not be just thinking about the future of the Tribe.

Modremoth stood staring out the window, chewing on his nails as he observed the marketplace far below. His nails were chipped and worn from years of stress-relief, but the habit was not becoming for a king. Was he a king now? His clan had reached an immeasurable size, with dragons constantly passing through the marketplace gates. Due to the vast amount of money being transferred, he now had a judiciary level, and dragons came to him for advice. Gods, he himself had advisors. Jake, the young skydancer Berry had hired to replace himself, hung behind Modremoth no matter where he went nowadays. He was quiet, at least, not loud and imprudent like his son’s mate. Modremoth preferred Jake over Sylvari’s presence any day. Even now, while he stared out the window, Jake was there, writing solemnly on a luxurious rug on the floor. His writing was neat and flowy, the delicacy of his handwriting an attribute to his breed. He had arrived after Rise's ominous warning of a God greeting them, but nothing of the sort had come from his mouth. Would a god not announce their presence? And so soon after the warning? Modremoth’s jewelled chains tinkled as he turned to look at the other skydancer. He was of high quality, a rare triple gened beauty, with odd patterns on his wings that seem to hint at ethereal portals. His beauty only made Moremoth more suspicious. Opening his mouth, Modremoth went to speak before a dragon burst into his room, not even bothering to knock. Jake flung himself to his feet, a mess of gangly limbs, pens and paper. “How dare you let yourself into the private chambers of the king without permission?!” he cried, with a serious attempt to look intimidating. Well, that solves that question, Modremoth mused, before reaching over to steady Jake. The skydancer’s body heaved with rage not quite unlike him. Confused, Modremoth finally turned to grace the intruder. A tiny nocturne with a bleached face and shackled ankles stood in front of him. In any other clan, such an appearance would herald a curse or other such damning presence, but Modremoth greeted the nocturne kindly. “Rat. Has Frisk finally given you the gift of movement?” Modremoth was surprised to see the bound nocturne walking freely. As far as he knew, she was still confined to her little post in the library. To find her here was an improvement in her boundaries… that is if Frisk knew. The little nocturne seemed not to react to her captor’s name. “Frisk knows I’m here. No one else was free so she sent me. She told me exactly where to go, but I still couldn’t find you. Loren told me you’d be here, so…” “So you walked in. From now on, Rat, please announce your presence before barging in. You gave my poor advisor a fright.” Modremoth’s warm hands slid over Jake’s shoulders, causing him to stiffen in awkward fright. “What, pray tell, is the cause for this, young Rat?” “Frisk says there’s a new dragon. But he’s not new. He’s old. But he’s not a good dragon. Frisk says he knows you and has been trying to get into contact with you. Frisk says-"" “Why couldn’t this have been scheduled, Rat?” Rat wrapped her hands around herself, then opened her arms wide. Modremoth’s eyes widened. Laid amongst the old scars of a past life, camouflaged against her dark body… A large bite wound had opened up her side, blood steadily soaking the scrap of fabric Rat now held in her hand. “He really wants to speak to you, Modremoth”
