Biography

Thank you Aphera for this gal! She'll make a very pretty volcarona :D

My friend Skarlette has the shiny version of it and Slither Wing which are also really neat too. I've always found it to be a really cool Pokémon even though it's a bit hard to get since Larvesta evolves quite late. Definitely worth it though with Quiver Dance.

Volcarona (Japanese: ウルガモス Ulgamoth) is a dual-type Bug/Fire Pokémon introduced in Generation V. It evolves from Larvesta starting at level 59.

It is said to be a relative of the Paradox Pokémon Slither Wing and Iron Moth or a version of them from a different timeline.

A single Volcarona is a special spawn in the Relic Castle portion of Pokemon Black and White and their sequels, Black and White 2. It can be caught postgame in B/W and after defeating Clay via Relic Passage in BW2.

DEX ENTRIES

Black/Y/Alpha Sapphire: When volcanic ash darkened the atmosphere, it is said that Volcarona's fire provided a replacement for the sun.

White, X, Omega Ruby: A sea of fire engulfs the surroundings of their battles, since they use their six wings to scatter their ember scales.

Black & White 2: Thought to be an embodiment of the sun, it appeared during a bitterly cold winter and saved Pokémon from freezing.

Ultra Sun: As it flies, it scatters its flaming scales. It was feared by ancient people, who referred to it as "the rage of the sun."

Ultra Moon: According to legends, it was hatched from a flaming cocoon to save people and Pokémon that were suffering from the cold.

Sword: Volcarona scatters burning scales. Some say it does this to start fires. Others say it's trying to rescue those that suffer in the cold.

Shield: This Pokémon emerges from a cocoon formed of raging flames. Ancient murals depict Volcarona as a deity of fire.

Scarlet: Its burning body causes it to be unpopular in hot parts of the world, but in cold ones, Volcarona is revered as an embodiment of the sun.

Violet: This Pokémon scatters burning scales. Most of the danger of these scales is not in their heat—it's in the way they rob the surrounding air of oxygen.
TRIVIA
- Volcarona shares its category with Espeon and Sunflora. They are all known as the Sun Pokémon.
- Volcarona evolves from its pre-evolved form Larvesta starting at the highest level of all two-stage evolution families, at level 59.
- According to interviews with Ken Sugimori in Nintendo Dream, Volcarona was originally designed with four wings. It was later designed with six wings to make it appear more powerful.
- Volcarona is one of three Pokémon to have two Paradox Pokémon that resemble it, Slither Wing and Iron Moth. The other Pokémon with this distinction are Donphan and Cyclizar.
- Of these, Volcarona’s Paradox Pokémon are the only ones without a major role in the main story of Pokémon Scarlet or Violet.
- Discounting forms, Volcarona and its pre-evolution are the last Generation V Pokémon to debut in Pokémon GO, debuting on May 2, 2023.
- Breeding this Pokemon is the only way to get Larvesta in Black and White 2 unless you trade over the Route 18 Pokemon Ranger egg from Black and White.

ORIGIN
Volcarona is based on a moth, presumably the Atlas moth or cecropia moth—or possibly the promethea silkmoth, Prometheus being a Titan god of fire. Its concept may have also been derived from the phrase "like a moth to a flame", which refers to the observed positive phototaxis demonstrated by moths.

Its wings may be based on the petals of a tiger lily, having the same number of extensions, black spots, and red-orange coloring. It also has motifs of the sun, with the black spots on its wings representing the dark spots on the sun. Volcarona may also be based on solar deities. Volcarona's head and antennae bear a resemblance to the headpiece of Hathor, which depicts the horns of the goddess cradling a disk representing the sun in between.

In addition, Volcarona's appearance may be loosely based on a seraph, a type of angel that is often associated with fire, as its name literally translates to "burning one". Like Volcarona, seraphim are often depicted with six red wings and no legs.

Volcarona may be a combination of volcano or Vulcan (Roman god of fire and volcanoes) and corona, referring to its Fire type and status as the Sun Pokémon.

Ulgamoth may be a combination of ウルカヌス Urukanusu (Vulcanus), 蛾 ga (moth), and moth.
