Biography
Allison -> Caspian -> Cleopatra -> Aurelia
Many hatchlings dream of being a prince or princess, but for most, this wish remains a fantasy. Some who are hatched royalty, however, want nothing more than a normal life.
When Aurelia was young, she loved being spoiled rotten. Anything she asked for would be in her claws by the end of the day. Her bedroom was stocked with enough dollhouses to make a miniature city.
As she grew older, though, Aurelia began to desire independence. She started to resent her parents and even the servants for the title that had been placed upon her before she had even emerged from her icy egg. Everyone who befriended her only seemed to do so because of her wealth and status. Aurelia began to wonder if anyone liked her for who she was. Then she started wondering if even she knew who she was.
Aurelia’s interests turned to survival. Her mother’s bedtime stories and cautionary tales always included warnings of The Organization, and Aurelia spent many sleepless nights in fear that she would wake up in captivity, or that she wouldn’t wake up at all. But even though she was constantly in danger of being kidnapped and/or killed, her private tutoring seemed to be focused on all the wrong things. Was it really so horrible for her to accidentally say “who” instead of “whom”? Why was she wasting time remembering to hold her cup of tea—which Aurelia never really liked, by the way—with her pinkie claw up? Weren’t these little details actually pointless?
It was a cool night in Fall when Aurelia climbed out of her window, opting to descend the ivy instead of flying for fear that her shining wings would catch the moonlight and alert someone. Nobody could know, not even her parents. Aurelia didn’t want word of her departure getting to the Organization.
The first several nights were a struggle. Reading about survival strategies is very different from using them, and trial and error seemed to be Aurelia’s best teacher. She battled bugs, cold wind, and rain. She spent almost a week sick from some poisonous berries she’d eaten. Her claws became stained with mud from all her traveling.
Finally she ended up in the Scarred Wasteland. This would probably be the best place to hide, Aurelia decided. Nobody would think to look for a princess in a slimy lair of tunnels like this. And if they do… well, Aurelia won’t worry about that unless it happens.
