当威廉•柏金终于得以进入他的休息室时，他感到有一种视线停在他的身上，观察他的每一个动作。一点怪异感和狂热的兴奋从他的心中升起。不是雪莉，安妮特在这里吗？
他转身，发现注视的源头在阴影中，一个比起人类过于巨大的——很像是阿尔伯特所青睐的*暴君*——的BOW正站在那里，它类似一个强壮的人类男性，大概有九英尺（约合2.7m）高，长着暗红色的眼睛和头发，全身被黑色布料所包裹。它并不发动攻击，保持安静，注视威廉和他挂在脖子上的身份卡。
一定是我没有睡觉的幻觉——不过威廉•柏金应该需要睡觉吗？他重新面对桌面，打开瓶子，喂自己两片安眠药物。
这个生物还是既不离开，也不攻击，只是从阴影中现身，样貌变得更为清晰。威廉很快注意到它的面容被一道巨大的伤疤贯穿，从右至左，右眼结着一层白翳，嘴角裂开直至耳廓下方。它继续注视着他，以一种炙热的，手术射灯般凝聚的目光，让他感到紧张，不断眨眼。假设看起来非常完美的试作型暴君是真实存在的，他要抓住这个，这就是他的新实验体…不，那不可能。如果它是真的，它怎么可能如此悄无声息地在设施中移动？
“嘿……”他尝试发出一个单音去吸引对方，同时寻找桌面上任何能够作为武器的东西。现在，它转动独眼，然后一双严重磨损的黑色或者墨蓝色的长靴开始从地板上移动，没有阴影，也没有预想中沉重的脚步声，它只是向威廉走近两步，更认真地看着他的工作牌。
