Charon, the Enigma
Keeper of Souls
Charon is a mystery that no one can agree on. Some swear he just appeared one night while others are convinced he's been around the clan for much, much longer. Perception of him also differs from dragon to dragon. To the sickly and the old he is a shadow of comfort, a shrouded inviting light always there in the corner of their eye. The young and the healthy see an ominous but distant figure, sometimes sheltering an indistinct shape under his wings as he passes by. It is those few who are afraid of death that give the most frightful descriptions of this mystery. They see a haunting creature of darkness, eldrich light seeping between sooty scales and from cracked wings. Tattered rags cover a misshapen beast that blackens the ground where it passes, the face (or sometimes faces) beneath it's hood not that of any dragon or earthly creature. There are those who claim he is an old friend, those who have never seen him and those who are haunted by him. Many dragons argue over what he could be, a lost spirit or an ill omen or even a poor, Shade-touched dragon. To those who know him though, the answer is obvious. |
