Biography

Quote:
An Obelisk pursues a whole mess of familiars with her own Bumble nestled in her mane. It doesn't look like it is in panic, though; it seems she is playing with them.

PETUNIA
FAMILIARMASTER
SHE/HER, BISEXUAL

Petunia is excitable and passionate about her favorite things, which all involve animals and familiars. She can be highly emotional, prone to cry very easily, and she is attached at the hip to her own Bumble familiar. Swinging from highs and lows of emotion, the fluff of her Bumble's fur calms her down when she can nuzzle into it.
She views her past, particularly how she met her familiar, with a good deal of shame and does not like to talk about it. She's happiest while working, and takes a special fascination in encouraging the youngest dragons of the clan to explore the world of familiars. Petunia also has a strong sense of duty and believes strongly in repaying her debts and making strong amends.

The Viridian Labyrinth, a lush and gorgeous corner of Sornieth, is the perfect place for an adventurous young dragon to grow up. Petunia was mobile from the tiniest of ages, running among the flowers and trees and away from her parents and siblings. She had the true courage and spunk of the typical "eldest child", which she was, encouraging her siblings to run, play and explore with her the moment they could walk.

While a Nature dragon would be instinctually drawn to plants, and Petunia was, she had an even stronger fascination with animals. While her family tended the flora of the Labyrinth, Petunia would be distracted from pruning bright hibiscus flowers when she caught a little mouse ducking under the brush. Clearing diseased branches from trees was not as interesting as staring at the nest full of baby birds climbing up so high let her see. Tending the lillies and cattails of the waterways was quickly forgotten when she spotted frogs hopping around the reeds.

Her love for animals was plain to see, and for the most part, her family encouraged it. As the eldest sibling, she was there for her siblings to look up to, and her adventurous nature and compassion for creatures big and small were traits to be encouraged. Though no one was thrilled when they caught her smuggling critters into the lair beneath her wings and in her mane.

One day, while helping beat back an encroaching group of invasive weeds within the Gladeveins, Petunia's easily distracted eye was immediately caught by something large and fluffy-looking. The Viridian Labyrinth was not usually home to large wildlife beyond grazing species and the occasional predatory animal, so she immediately lost focus on her task when she spotted the creature. She approached, excited and fascinated, but the mystery creature fled across the water dividing the Labyrinth from the Sunbeam Ruins. A large creature that could fly, but wasn't a bird? Petunia was incensed and dying to see more of it!

She trailed close behind it, sticking on the critter's tail all the way. It was the hardest she had flown before, but this animal fascinated her enough to keep going. The creature and pursuing dragon flew over the Sunbeam Ruins, and through the Tangled Wood, zigzagging about. But Petunia kept getting closer to seeing what it was in its entirely, and too excited to stop, she kept up the pursuit. That is, until, on the edge of the Tangled Wood, she chased the creature straight into the Foxfire Bramble. When she witnessed it crash among the tendrils, she immediately braked and came to a narrow stop right in front of it.

She was immediately crushed by guilt when she got a good look at the insectoid creature snagged in the thorns--she could see it clearly, but she realized it was her overzealousness that had terrified the creature straight into what could very well be its final resting place. Spurred on by her guilt and determined to not let this fascinating animal die because of her rashness, Petunia used her massive claws to cleave through the brambles to reach it. But the thick, magical vines were nigh impenetrable, and it seemed no matter how much she struck, even her Obelisk strength couldn't clear a path. She had to resort to jumping into the brambles herself, something that caused her much injury, but it was her only option left to save it.

And it worked! Through all her effort, Petunia eventually tumbled out to the other side of the Foxfire Bramble, quite injured and clutching the equally injured insect creature to her chest. The dry, arid air of the Scarred Wasteland burned her wounds and tired lungs, but she breathed a sigh of relief and hugged the insect while wearily mumbling apologies.

Eventually, Petunia's consciousness succummbed to her wounds, and she collapsed not far from where she broke through, still gripping the animal in a last-ditch effort to protect it from the elements. She was too tired to notice an encroaching group of dragons, drawn by the noise of her struggle, surrounding her from all sides.

Petunia woke up in the infirmary of the Clan of the Wounded lair, and in her confusion about her location, all she could do was shout about the animal she tried to save and where it was. Her fears were assuaged when she learned it had been treated as well, and had, to this point, hung well onto life. Before even addressing her rescuers she sobbed over the injured thing--a Bumble, she learned--feeling horrific for what she had put it through. And yet in its tired, injured state, it licked at her paw and now refused to leave her side. She did not think the attention was deserved, but she held it close nonetheless. The medicine dragons all departed the room for the time being, allowing the stranger to rest and work things out.

When Petunia recovered, both physically and emotionally, she insisted upon helping the clan to pay them back somehow, for saving her life. Impressed by the connection she had with the Bumble she apparently saved--lest no one find out what had gotten it there in the first place, Petunia lives in shame--she was offered a position helping watch and advise other dragons on the clan's familiars. It was a position that delighted her and she heartily accepted.

So now, Petunia can be found advising other dragons on bonding with their familiars as welll as monitoring and rounding up the ones without a dragon to bond with yet. Her passion is appreciated by the dragons of the clan and she makes all dealings with familiars an exciting affair. Her favorite thing about her new position is matching young hatchlings who come of age with their perfect familiar.

When not working, she can be found bonding through hushed apologies with her Bumble, Berry, and sending frequent letters to her family back home to let them know she is still well.

70113487p.png Petunia is one of the few Obelisks who can escape Matilde's smothering presence over the local dragons of the breed. This is thanks to her largely being so busy--Matilde has seen Petunia has a very clear purpose, unlike the other Obelisks who listlessly followed wherever the wind blew to find themselves. As such, Matilde respects her greatly and often asks her to speak to the rest of the "adrift" clan Obelisks and to even explain why "her purpose" is so clear to her. Petunia doesn't really understand what Matilde sees in her that is so incredible.
76881302p.png Petunia is mildly obsessed with Cardinal, maybe a bit. When the traveling troupe is in, she rushes to spend time with him and delights in meeting all of his bird friends. She's a bit overwhelming and intense for someone like him, but he appreciates the attention to a point and however different they may be, they are still friends.
77133763p.png Lollipop, of the strange, beastly Aberrations designated to watch the nests and children of the clan, is the easiest to communicate with. Many dragons, especially non-Plague dragons, have always had objections to the assignment of the Aberration refugees, but Petunia was not such a dragon. As a pair of Nature dragons, she and Lollipop have always had a connection. He is the one assigned to bring the hatchlings to meet their first familiars thanks to this connection, so she always perks up when she sees him come around. They swap stories of the early years they spent in the Viridian Labyrinth often.
