Biography
Widdershins HE / HIM Wandering Occultist iiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee |
Before Widdershin's magic manifested, he was a scribe. Well, apprenticed to a scribe, anyway. He had very nearly completed his tutelage, and it seemed that with his keen eye for detail and steady hand, he'd be a Master scribe with only a few years of Journeyman studies. All those plans went up in flames the moment he began to show an inkling of magical attunement. His attempts to hide the manifesting magic could only last for so long before someone began to take notice; and to his seemingly abundant misfortune, the magic was the kind that ignites superstition and fear: the dead stirred about him, and spirits whispered their regrets to him as he passed the graveyard. It was deemed unacceptable by all around him. All except for his sibling, Ophrey. Widdershins was imprisoned, shackled in heavy iron chains. It didn't matter that he had no idea how to even control his newly found talent, let alone use it for something malicious. For nearly a fortnight he dwelt in a cold, damp dungeon cell. Still, Orphey visited Widdershins when they could, and together, they formulated a secret plan of escape. The night before Widdershins' execution, Widdershins was able to escape with the help of Orphey. Just how he managed to escape has remained a secret that Ophrey has kept for years -- and one that has lost superstitious townsfolk sleep. That was the last time Ophrey and Widdershins ever saw each other in person. - Those years are now far behind Widdershins now, and he is no longer the meek and scared young dragon he had once been. He sends letters to his sibling Ophrey occasionally, writing vivid descriptions of the colorful people he has met and the places he has explored. Ophrey's children all know that the mysterious uncle they've never met sends the oddest -- and the best -- gifts of all. Polished stones blacker than a starless night, dried mothwings and wolf teeth, trinkets that can move on their own at the command of a word, and books filled with beautiful hand-illuminated illustrations depicting bizarre magical phenomena. - He now makes his living by way of fortune telling, spirit work, and of course, as a scribe, when the rare opportunity arises. He has written books of occult knowledge, though getting your hands on a copy is easier said than done. For a price, he can even commune with the dead, banish malevolent spirits, and create talismans to protect one from harm. He lives in a caravan, drifting between townships and settlements like one of the ghosts he claims to speak to. Despite his kind and outwardly calm demeanor, he has never taken a partner, and he lacks many true friends. He is plagued by a quiet, creeping paranoia, and struggles to trust those around him, even those he's known for many years. His fear of intimacy and friendship is one of the remaining thorns from his past he wishes he could escape from, but he can never seem to shake off the loneliness. |
