Haniel is a battle mage, and a good one too. His shredding wind blades helped make him mildly sought after in the world of the mercenaries. The only problem with that was it meant eventually, someone came to him with a job his morals wouldn't let him take. In this case, his "task" was the elimination of an entire tribe of Fae. Including the hatchlings. All it would have taken was a single spell, but he refused. His potential employers were not at all pleased by this.

The Coatl found himself on the edges of the Tangled Wood, the place for outcasts and the hunted to hide, fleeing several of his former comrades more motivated by money than loyalty. The battle spilled into the Foxfire Bramble and the territory of the Briarshade Clan, where it was promptly broken up by the warriors. Some investigation by the Shadowed revealed the aggressors - who's fate was decided by their would-be prey. They died, and Haniel was offered sanctuary from those who would come after the bounty on his head.

He originally only intended to stay for a year or to, or until the bounty was removed. While being given a tour of the clan home, he quite literally into across a young spiral. Nanichi had been occupied with her thoughts, and bumped into the much large Coatl. After apologizing, she took over his tour, leaving Jyzen shaking his head in amusement. He ate dinner that night with a Spiral buried in his feathers.

They were assigned to work on several magical projects together, despite their nearly opposite natures - the quick, bright and scholarly spiral and the taciturn, deadly warrior got along surprisingly well. He found himself staying longer than he intended to, even after the bounty was removed. It was partly to learn more about runes, and partly because this clan was more welcoming to the Coatl that had walked in its midst than any he had yet met. But the largest reason for staying was the Spiral that had wormed her way into his heart.

They kept courting period quiet, and only a couple of Nanichi's closest friends knew. She was surprisingly good at keeping secrets for a dragon that constantly babbled. Most dragons of the clan were shocked when they announced the first clutch of eggs. His mate didn't stop giggling about it for days.

Haniel is from the Reedcleft Ascent originally. His first clan had been wary of the pair of light-colored Coatls, but accepted them after a trial period to ensure no bad luck would come. When their first and only clutch was followed by the clan leader becoming extremely sick and close to dying, the hatchlings were cast out. His sisters eventually found their way to different clans of the Southern Icefield, where Haniel visits often. He lived to adulthood in the twisting and constantly shifting Cloudsong, honing wind magic and physical skills alike.

The Coatl is widely know for taciturn, quiet responses delivered in the queer whistling speech of his breed. Not much visibly sways him, and he's very remote and distant, despite his mate's habit of curling around his frame and chattering uncontrollably. Even the hatchlings are kept somewhat distant in public, though in private he is slightly more demonstrative about his love for them. A common sight around the clan is the faintly shimmering Coatl slogging down the corridors with three or four of the newest brood curled around his body, all rapidly speaking at once.

His familiar Rranic is his ground support, serving as a base to sit on while casting spells, one that can move away from approaching enemies. He doesn't speak much, and is perfectly happy to shed blood in defense of Haniel or his mate.
