Biography
The sun had just begun meeting the horizon, throwing deep shadows through the thick forest, when you realized you'd turned around a few too many times in the darkening copse of trees. "Oh boy," you thought, "I'll never hear the end of it if Warden Yew realizes I got lost." Seeing as you already had a reputation for being one to lose track of things- be it items, time, or your way- you began thinking of an excuse for keeping out so late, all the while trying your best to locate the way back to the wetlands your Clan called home.
...
You were certain just a moment ago you'd been facing the falling sun- how was it behind you now? Panic rose in your chest as the sun dipped deeply below the horizon, the last dregs of sunlight filtering weakly through the trees. You whirled around, desperately seeking a way out. It felt like you'd been walking in circles. Moving briskly, you passed by what you swore was the same tree you'd already passed thrice. It was huge, with leaves and moss dripping off outstretched branches, and there was a symbol carved into the bark of the side of the tree facing north. The symbol looked aged, bark nearly growing over it. You furrowed your brows at it. It felt like it was... calling you? Beckoning you. Desperately gnawing at the edge of your will, like it wasn't up to you if you were to... touch it. When had you gotten so close to the tree? You certainly don't remember walking up to it. It was even larger, more daunting, towering, up close. You felt like a hatchling again, peering up at the Gladekeeper.
You didn't realize you were touching the rune until you saw your talons on the bark.
The bark was rough, weathered but strong. You got the sense that this tree preceded much of today's Dragonkind, even the Ancients. Maybe not always in this spot, in this forest, but the tree was certainly ancient. From behind you came a breathy, creaky laugh. You spun, eyes wide and heart beating wildly.
"It seems my premonition was true." Facing you was a dragon, hunched and ragged, who blended in a little too well with the shrubs it stood among. "We have a visitor."
"N-no, I didn't- I don't- just trying to make my way home," you stammered. "I was just heading out-"
The dragon chuckled again. "Dear, you are lost." Its voice was ragged, and could've belonged to either an adolescent male or a well-aged matriarch. In fact, it nearly sounded like both- like two voices talking simultaneously. "We can help you."
You took a frantic step back, forgetting the tree immediately behind you, and slammed your hindquarters into the bark. "No, that's- ouch- that's just fine, I'm sure I'll be fine, just fine, it's fine, I'm..." Your voice trailed off as the dragon took a slow, patient step towards you.
"No, dear, you don't seem to understand. We are going to help you."
