Visse would have been a mall loiterer in a previous life.
They are a born window shopper, originally attracted to the Bazaar by its wealth of everchanging trinkets and goods to look at and form overly severe opinions about. As with many blow ins to the Wanderhome tree, he just never found it within himself to leave - there were new things to look at every day, many very skilled gossipmongers to trade secrets with, Asha's kitchen to schmooze a meal out of (which worked... to varying degrees), and usually a tent to sleep in if it rained. What else could a boy need.
Well. Money, for starters.
The Cirque du Mélange had blown into town.
It was not the first time, nor the last (the ringleader seemed friendly with Kree, as far as he bothered to learn), but this latest stop on their endless lap of Sornieth marked something for Visse.
Because the time had come that he found something in the Bazaar he could not pass up, but his endless loitering and constant shopping habits had run his coffers rather dry, and a very apologetic Larkspur was blowing out of town with the circus the next day and couldn't hold the item for him - a gorgeous capelet in yellow-orange dyed spidersilk, the color like it had been dyed on purpose to match his wings.
Dejected, Visse wandered into the circus, hiding himself to avoid paying for a ticket.
Until this point, Visse had long considered themself someone who did not and would not ever experience romantic feelings. He is not, habitually, someone who indulges sentiment or emotions, above impulses to overshare about other peoples' gossip. And yet. Present it was, and even when he waited, it did not go away.
The creature tamer from the circus was beautiful.
Gideon's tawny skin and the space beneath his mask were mysterious dusk under the stage lights, his skill with his animals belying years and years of patience and practice, gentleness inscribed in every pore and underlining every movement. He was everything Visse was not. It drove him immediately to obsession.
The circus blows out of town. With it goes part of Visse's heart. Unrelatedly, Visse starts up a familiar watching and babysitting business for dragons who want to browse the bazaar in peace.
(Will it impress Gideon? Well, that remains to be seen...)
He still does not like animals. They are clingy and shed all kinds of objectionable fur and drool and other particulates. But, though he would never admit it, eventually Visse grows to like the animated object and automata familiars - he can understand them better than the creatures, and they take far less maintenance, which is more the point.
