Biography

The Sickness, The Mad Goddess
(former Guild of Science) GUILDLESS

A member of the Quarantine Zone since birth, Pestilence knew the procedures for maintaining and reducing outbreaks of diseases since birth. Her mind had been prepped for every contingency, every possible scenario for disaster that could possibly happen in an area that was rife with disease, and worked as a member of the Quarantine Passage Zone run by the Guild of Science, where dragons coming into the area seeking refuge or treatment would be processed, to avoid any possibility of an outbreak. Pestilence enjoyed her job but was growing weary of the monotonous routine. She decided to take a holiday, something that was unheard of for her, and travel the other parts of the world. During her travels, she met with many dragons, learned of new diseases, and took extensive notes on anything and everything she deemed relevant. Upon her return to her home, she was then subject to the same screening process. Having been away so long, she never thought of the possibility that she would contract a disease not previously known to the Quarantine Zone. Those at the Guild of Science confiscated Pestilence’s notes and locked her away in a containment chamber. There, they conducted many tests and treatments in order to gain more knowledge of the disease that Pestilence had contracted, hungry to learn more. Pestilence, however, was feeling fine. Better than fine, actually. She felt powerful. With each test and each experimentation they performed on her, Pestilence felt more and more powerful. Eventually, she had garnered enough power to start her own experiments. She touched the food that she was given once a day, and it rotted beneath her touch. She tapped into the opposing aspect of this ability, and the food was restored to its former edible state. She had a plan. When the guards of the research facility became lax on security, not thinking that Pestilence had any chance or fight in her to resist, she took her chance. Unleashing her newfound power left and right, she broke out of the facility, leaving thousands of bodies in her wake. She took refuge on an isolated mountain, killing all that dared come close to try to recapture her. Growing more and more disillusioned by her own people and gaining more distrust, Pestilence locked away the healing side of her power to manipulate disease. This and her isolation drove her mad. Haunting howls came from the mountain that became her home, and she surrounded her cave with the bones and riches of the dragons that tried to seek her out. She became a deity of fear among the people of the Quarantine Zone. She still lives on that mountain to this day, still surrounded by bones and riches. Brave dragons still seek her out for advice or pleas that she will come to heal a family member or a town that was being devastated by a plague that she often delighted in causing. She rarely heeded their pleas, often delighting in driving them mad with suspense before rotting their very essence till only bone dust was left, but even rarer, if a dragon is successful in pleading their case, she might be inclined to show mercy.
