One day, Patches was setting out for her daily patrol when she finds a mysterious egg lying in a crater. Not one to leave a hatchling for dead, Patches carried the egg back to her home and cared for it night and day. A few nights later, the other babies were woken up by a strange noise. An eerie screech echoes through the nest as a strange shadow lurks around the corner. Most of the babies cry out in fear as they scatter about. Vindictina sees this as an opportunity to quench her urge to fight, but even she is paralyzed by fear when this unnamed monster stares her down. Patches rushes to the nursery, ready to defend her hatchlings, only to discover that this dragon is her new baby! Patches wraps herself around the newborn dragon and gives him a big hug. Patches stares him in the eyes, and she realizes that this dragon isn't looking for food, he's searching for his kin. Patches, who decides to name him Hunter, tells him that she's his mother and all of her children are his family. The scared hatchlings, who are peeking out of their hiding places, slowly approach their new brother. Though his origins are unknown, Hunter will always be Patches's son. As he gets older, Hunter recalls a recurring dream where he was once an adult Nocturne who traveled the world in search of treasure. This dream baffles him every night.
