There is an orchard by the cemetery.

It was there before the Crew settled in this place, just as the cemetery was. Its trees grow strong off whatever life was left in the bones below, bearing bright citrus fruit that tastes of equal parts nostalgia and brilliant hope for the future. The light that pulses dimly behind their thick rinds is the only source of illumination in this cave, this grand cathedral structure of stalactites and -mites and -mights and -maybes and -could-have-beens.

The only entrance is far, far below the water's surface. The only breathable air comes from these trees. The only illumination, from their fruits. The job of the orchard-keeper is not to provide food for this clan that has made its home in the shade of things that have never known the sun - it is to provide life.

In a little house of driftwood and old coral, Isa keeps her spade and her pruners and her watering can, some good books, an easel, paints made of purple squid ink and blood-red fruit. She is part of the Crew, but she has her own responsibilities that do not involve filleting fish, arguing about the scientific method, or keeping increasingly dangerous secrets from her own kin.

Honestly, she isn't certain how the Crew has remained... stable, for as long as it has.

No matter. She has her orchard - and it is hers, now. She is the one who prunes old growth to make way for the new, who hums and haws over every blossom and squeezes the juice from each fruit before grinding the rind into lamp oil.

Fruit? No. Gems, really. Skin of crystal, that needs to be cracked like a geode to get at the soft flesh within.

This cave, barely half-way to the half-way point of the deepest depths of the world and already so far from the sun, should not bear life. And yet, it does! And it is beautiful! The bones of those who came before have given rise to a magnificent garden.
She appreciates them, whoever they were, and whatever gods they worshipped (for she alone has seen the ornate figures carved so reverently into the oldest roots, and whatever they depict, it is certainly not the Tidelord).

Perhaps it is in part because she knows what it is to exist despite all efforts by the universe to the contrary. Of her grandparents, three were... how did the mortician put it? Should-Not-Have-Beens is too negative a moniker. Strange, maybe. Distorted, perhaps. A bit impossible.

But impossible things are everywhere. Gems don't grow on trees, you know.

The more a thing cannot be done, the more Isa sets her mind to do it - and the more often she succeeds. It is the simpler tasks with which she struggles, the every-day going-about, the routines and rituals of life in a clan.

It is hard, sometimes, to get things done. But the orchard is patient. It has nothing but time, and the light it makes from itself out of old memories. And the Crew never judges - for this, she is grateful.

Should she want for conversation, there is always the mortician. Marun is sweet, and gentle, and now and then his claws slip through his tools as if he had gone briefly Elsewhere, and had forgotten for a moment how to exist.

He understands.

So, the "glitched imperials" (though "false imperials" is really more accurate) are Talos, Zinovia, and Ausra, who are the kids of a pair of dragons that... well, the kids are G2 imperials. Neither parent is an imperial. Something is clearly very, very wrong there. (Who on earth would use an imperial scroll, and then re-scroll that dragon?)

Basically, in 2015 there was a scandal regarding imperial breed change scrolls and other KS items being hacked in and sold. 'Twas a whole Thing. Buyers of those scrolls weren't punished, but dragons who had hacked scrolls on them were reverted. One such dragon was Firuxe; his owner posted happily about buying the scroll, and bred Firuxe with a G1 wildclaw:

Someone sold me one for...a lot. A lot. Haha.

I caved and bred them! They had a nest of three so i couldn't resist using a boon ;o;<3

Firuxe, like other dragons affected by the false scrolls, was changed back to his original breed, a fae - but his three kids were allowed to stay imperials. As far as we know, those kids are the only ones existing from such a pair (probably because a boon was used, meaning they were hatched before the devs were able to revert their parents): G2 imperials... who should not exist.

(The lore possibilities, gosh I love weird site-meta lineages.)
