Biography

nXKI4pB.png
Uh-oh, looks like this purple harlequin wandered a little too far from his home lair (570686, LabyrinthianLost), and now he's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but he would be very grateful!

Darkmask always had a love for comedy. From the moment the then-fae dragon stepped out of his egg, he was eliciting laughs that cheered others up. He grew to seek out this attention, learning various odd skills and even adjusting his attitude to suit the performances he began to put on. Before he knew it, he had props, a routine that was generally beloved and was even pulling in some coin on the side. This opened his eyes. Making money was this easy? Time passed, and Darkmask became the most successful of his brothers. However, he'd hit a rut.

Everyone in the city had already seen his act, and despite his attempts to change it up, he was quickly running out of ideas. As he pondered this, trying to sleep, it hit him. He could travel! Bring his show to people who hadn't seen it yet, and hopefully get some inspiration from them along the way. If nothing else, the smiles on the faces of those dragons would be worth it. Determined, Darkmask enacted his plan that very night. Before anyone could stop him, he slipped away into the night, props in hand, ready to put on the show of a lifetime for anyone who needed a smile in their life.

---

After a wandering through lonely wilderness with only his props for company, Darkmask arrived at the workshop of the Voltitech Corps. It was a site that bustled with activity, making Darkmask feel very small among all the busy workers. While many employees were too preoccupied with their tasks to pay much attention to one small entertainer, he found his audience with interns and others taking a break in the local eatery. He stuck around for a bit to perform and was also gifted some odd mechanical knick-knacks to add to his prop collection, but in the end he found the fast-paced office environment didn't suit his style.

---

One long, hot, exhausting journey later, Darkmask began to smell.. something. It didn't smell like the crisp, white-hot smell of an electrical storm, or the vibrant green forests he'd flown over previously. It smelled.. wrong, somehow- at least to his limited frame of reference! He landed wearily on the outskirts of what looked to be a small settlement of strange dragons, whose raucous laughter and dark humor drifted over to him on the wind. Darkmask thirstily drank from a strange-looking river, and began to feel.. different. As le looked upon his reflection in a mixture of horror and awe, he noticed he'd.. changed. Two pairs of eyes stared back at him, and then one of the heads turned to...well.. HIM.. "Hey, would you look at that! We're a comedy duo now!" Darkmask screamed and ran headlong into the underbrush, such as it was. Oof! He landed on his rump with a thud, looking up at the person, place, or thing he'd nearly bowled over. Looking calmly, curiously, and not without a shadow of humor, was a veilspun dragoness, with dark wings that seemed to glitter softly, even in the strange light. "You look like you could use a place to stay.. did you drink from Quarantine Zone #128 by chance?" She smiled and beckoned him. "Come rest a while, and get to know your new companion. It's just a part of you, really, kind of like a manifestation of your inner demons." Darkmask didn't really know what to make of that, but his second head grinned. "We're gonna make the whole world laugh, self!" He stayed with Bathory's clan of misfits, tarot card readers, witches, and gallows humor buffs for many months before he.. Dark, and Mask, the two parts of him made separate, flew off to perfect their new routine.

"So which one of you is the dark and which one of you is the mask"

"I'm dark" said Dark "and he's mask, because i'm the tall dark and handsome one and he's just a clown."

"No I'm dark" said Mask "because i'm your inner demons and you're just the mask over it."

"You're more like my outer demons, ya yutz" said dark

"That makes two of us!"

"Ok so better question" said the thing "is which one of you drank my 'turning into a sock' juice"

They got out of there real fast after that

The chaotic light clan that Dark and Mask found themselves in was truly bizarre.
First of all, there were two more travelers there; a familiar-obsessed tundra and a calm and lazy (Dark insisted that she was just "an old soul") fae. The two didn't seem very interested in their performances, unfortunately, but they did share some interesting stories from their travels.
The clan members, though, enjoyed Dark and Masks' first performance a lot, so the two continued each night to entertain the bland clan.

After some time, Izydora said her goodbyes and left for the Everbloom Gardens. In her place came a pearlcatcher that traveles around to find as many mates as possible. Neither Dark, nor Mask liked him that much. But, after some time, a large guardian named Scarlet (or at least that was the nickname that Mask gave her) had to move in with them. She also seemed to be a descendant of Gengyar, which was quite nice. She also seemed to carry coats that resembled a tundra's fur a bit too much.

It had been a long, long time, but finally Darkmask was back home. His components were harmonized, being back in Cragenmire, and a sense of nostalgia filled him even though the cavern had changed so, so much from the last time he’d set foot in it. No one recognized him. Darkmask expected that, of course. He’d become an entirely new dragon in his time away. There was only so much about him that remained the same after all this time.

Cragenmire had become a real city while he was away. There was a casino, a library, a tavern, a crystal shop - even a tea shop. Some familiar faces remained, but many were nowhere to be found. It was a little lonely. Everyone had moved on… without him. By chance, he bumped into his brother Dyvad, and somehow, the ridgeback had actually recognized him. The two caught up for hours, Dyvad introducing his mate, Itoha and Darkmask regaling the story of how he became an Aberration.

Darkmask wanted to stay - to see all that had changed and all that had stayed the same. Not forever, but for a while.
