She spends more time gardening than training to her heritage! It's resulted in a beautiful and fragrant moon garden, glowing in the darkness. She sighs happily, enjoying the blossoms with pure contentment, as they open under the stars.
Then she began to notice activity in the Weyr picking up at night, and flitted over hoping to find someone she could ask about it. Ah, there was a Bogsneak she didn't recognize, perfect, he wouldn't nag her!
"Er, excuse me, if you don't mind, can you tell me what's got everyone so busy these past few days?" she asked.
"Oh, sure, Weggienath! Reldith and Pousseth are trying out a special training drive right now to ready new warriors more quickly, and..." he trailed off. Weggienath's mouth had fallen open, and she was gaping at him in shock.
"How... how do you know me?" she finally forced out.
He looked at her askance. "You really haven't been around, have you? It's me, Douglemth!"
"Douglemth? But ..." She remembered him as a zippy little Mirror hatchling with sparkles glittering on his wings.
"I know, I know... it's a long story! I'll tell you about it sometime, after I've finished up myself. Say, maybe you should check out the program? We've, uh, noticed you never seem to have time to make it to regular practices, and this way you could get it over with, and back your, uh, whatever you've been doing instead. Or maybe you'll want to stick to it.... I like feeling more useful, personally!" And with that, he trundled off.
"More useful!" she huffed indignantly. As if the work she'd put into creating and nurturing her gorgeous garden wasn't a good use of her time! But, on the other hand, maybe if she went ahead and did the training now, she could qualify as a Night Warrior and get her parents (and all their friends!) off her back! And then she could plant in peace again.
