When the dragon now know as the Emperor was a young dragon, he was a passed-over noble in the court of the past Emperor. One day, the representation of the Mandate of Heaven known as the Lightweaver appeared to him and told him that the current ruler of the Imperial Court had lost the Mandate of Heaven and his dynasty was no longer legitimately ruled. After many years of political maneuvering and eventual outright warfare, Huangdi overthrew the old emperor and placed himself on the throne.

In the lore of the Imperial Court, "The Light" is the Mandate of Heaven. The Lightweaver is considered to be the metaphorical representation of the Mandate, and the Will of Heaven more broadly, rather than an actual literal being. Whether the story told by Huangdi is true or a convenient tale to legitimize his overthrow of the past Emperor is a discussion best held far away from the court.
