Biography

Lyell
”It’s simple, really. You just have to convince the client to buy something.”

A travelling merchant who takes pride in his wares, and usually tries to source the best items he can. He’s not, however, always entirely truthful about just where he gets them from. A little petty theft never hurt anybody, after all. And well, dead dragons aren’t going to need that necklace or brooch, are they?

Primarily deals in gems and other precious stones. Jewellery as well. Will charge outrageous prices for even a simple gold ring. He’s extremely good at hyping up his wares, and can usually get somebody to buy something - even if he does seem to ask for a lot of coins. He’s subtle, however. He’ll never outright tell anyone to buy his wares - no, instead he’ll “suggest” that a certain piece of jewellery looks good or that bit of jade matches your eyes. Lyell knows that flattery is usually the best method of selling something, and to be honest, it’s fairly easy to come up with a compliment or even just a casual comment that might encourage someone to look at his items.

In fact Lyell could probably convince someone to buy a piece of coloured glass. Pretty yes, but not at all valuable. Still, he doesn’t offer refunds. Sorry, but once you’ve bought it, it is yours. And Lyell? He’ll be travelling on, trying to find somewhere new to set up shop. It’s a rule of his that he never trades in the same place twice. Well…was a rule of his.

Felhallow

Originally from the Shifting Expanse, though he never felt at home there. Tinkering with machinery/building things just wasn’t his forte. He tried, but nothing ever really…clicked for him.

What he did enjoy, however, was watching the merchants/shop keepers ply their trade. It always fascinated him - seeing who could get the most customers or who wasn’t very good at selling their wares. Lyell took note of everything. In fact, he practiced his own skills on his peers. He was mostly successful in selling a few trinkets and pieces of costume jewellery.

Upon leaving his clan, he immediately began to obtain his own wares. Some were procured by normal means, others…weren’t. It also took some time for him to perfect his sales technique - though he quickly worked out what not to say.

On seeing Felhallow, Lyell’s eyes lit up. Now here was a place where he could ply his trade quite happily. And he has ever since. Though he still travels occasionally, more often than not he can usually be spotted in the marketplace or surrounding area - either haggling with other merchants or simply looking round.
