"…This castle is my legacy, isn't it?" The desert ruins of Sorineth are not well documented, but that's not for lack of trying. Submerged under hundreds of meters of sand, there stand inklings and hints of grand architecture unique to the desert wastes- a spire of sandstone reaching upwards towards the sky, a flat plate of intricately carved stone jutting out of the ground, or a grandfather clock clogged with sand. A small amount of dragons, mainly youthful scholars and aspiring documentarians, journey out to the ruins every year, determined to uncover the truth behind these. However, this is a much loftier goal than reading may suggest; a shovel and a can-do attitude does, in fact, bend before the overwhelming weight of an entire desert, especially one as dangerous as these. Most dragons give up rather quickly, scared away by the vicious conditions of the wastes. Some choose to stay, dedicating their lives to uncovering what lies underneath the sand. But those who choose to stay there for long know: don't go near the castle walls. Llewyn is a solemn Ridgeback who lives out in the trecherous desert wastes of Sorineth. Plagued by brutal lightning storms, beamed down upon by the hot sun in the day and bombarded by the cold at night, they're a dangerous place for anyone to live. Even more so without someone to rely on. Still, Llewyn has managed to make do with these conditions, and carved out a life for themself in their little corner of the desert ruins, right next to a set of old castle walls. They've lived in the ruins all their life, from birth until now. During their earlier years, they were the centerpiece of archaeological folklore, known only as the Gatekeeper. They were heady during that time, chasing away anyone who came close to their home in a flurry of talons and sand. Now, however, they've cooled down considerably, much like the desert at midnight. They mostly spend their time thinking, writing, and reading the relatively sizable collection of books they inherited. It's a simple life, but one that they were used to. Now, though, they have come to a strange discovery… Slowly, Llewyn has been coming into a newfound power- pssamokinesis, the ability to manipulate sand using only their mind. At the same time, their scales have changed: now, they find themselves covered in metallic rings that shine like the red hot sun whenever Llewyn uses their powers. Their abilities are developing at a rather quick pace: a few months ago, they could only move piles of sand the size of their toe; now, they're able to nearly dwarf their form with the amount of sand they can pick up at a time. They've been using this power to discover the castles bit by bit, slowly moving downward from domed roof that's remained uncovered all this time. |
