Biography
Once in a generation, there was born a Healer. A dragon so talented with the arts of healing magic that they practically exuded it, just like a primal practically lived and breathed their element. Even just standing around them was enough for a dragon to feel better than they had in years.
His parents, upon noticing his hatchling abilities, the way he could heal harsh frostbite with just a touch, sent for the best healing tutor treasure could buy. By fledging age, he could heal among the best of adult healers. By adult age, he could bring dragons back from the brink of death.
Now, as a famous healer, dragons from all over the Southern Icefield—and beyond—came seeking him. They implored him to cure their ailments, to heal their hatchlings, to make them feel better; and his skill in the art was unrivaled. Denali was famous. Denali was revered.
Denali was tired.
It was a constant flow of dragons seeking aid. Day after day, night after night; a constant cycle of casting, touching, healing that never let him rest. Some nights he didn't catch more than an hour's rest before another dragon came rushing in, begging for help.
And, he'd admit—he liked the work! Loved it, even. He liked helping dragons. For a lot of them, he was their only hope after trying everything else at their talons. He couldn't abandon his duty. He'd resign them to a slow, terrible, painful fate. The guilt would weigh on his soul for the rest of his life.
But, gods, was he exhausted.
It was after one of those long nights where his talons ached and he felt on the verge of passing out right then and there that he had an idea. For some of these dragons, he was their only hope; but not all of them. Sometimes, he was just the closest, fastest healer in the area. For some of them, he was just their only option.
Perhaps… perhaps he just needed more talons on the issue. More dragons trained in healing magic, so these poor patients didn't have to rely on only him. It wasn't good for the patient either if the dragon was so exhausted they could barely stand. Perhaps he just needed… assistants.
He posted an advertisement for applicants the next morning, and felt something tired ease in his heart.
