Verity doesn’t remember falling, per se, but she does recall hitting the ground. She recalls pain that erupted from her core in waves, and with it, the her life force seeping out.

Another, someone familiar, who came to lay beside her. A warm comfort that gradually faded into nothingness.

When she awoke, she was alone. She felt well again, but not quite like herself.
She didn’t feel she should be there, wandering in that empty plateau. The immense sky called to her, but something deep within her told her she couldn’t return to it.

So she focused instead on the emptiness in her chest, the overwhelming awareness that she did not want to be alone a moment longer.

The moving galaxy, the ethereal creature, the weird, lanky pearlcatcher broke into a run and dashed across the empty land.

She needed to find someone. Anyone.
