Eiva was hired on by Amberspire to further screen those who would approach the Ever-Autumn Wood.
She was interviewed and approved by Pepper herself, with the exact reasoning she was picked above all others not known publicly.

After the attack on Amberspire, Lady Anya requested a personal guard to protect her at all times.

A reasonable request that was swiftly granted by Lady Pepper; Eiva was moved from her position as an Ever-Autumn border guard to Lady Anya's personal guard. A huge promotion, and one she had no option to refuse.

Eiva is by-the-book and serious, and rarely speaks unless directly asked a question.
The general populace knows absolutely nothing about where she came from, how she was hired, or much else at all. However, in spite of her stern expression, she exudes absolute elegance. That, coupled with her soft-spoken nature and divine harp-playing, has earned her a few admirers amongst both her fellow guards and common folk alike.

Her thoughts on that aren't much known - in spite of her soothing music, she is all business.
