Bark never wanted a name, nor any purpose other than that to which he was born: to devour the magic of Sornieth and use it to reclaim his true form and power. Like many beasts who take the form of imperials, his ultimate goal was to gain more than just his former power; by killing true imperials and laying their corpses close by his own, he aimed to create an emperor of himself, magnifying his power and reimagining his true form in an effort to become the msot powerful of his kind. The Maimed Conclave was a perfect target, boasting many imperials, many of them incredibly powerful themselves. Mortali's gift of raw magic, though still in training, made him a prime target. Sired by an emperor himself, Loyce too made a perfect target. His loyalty to his princess was troublesome, to be sure, but nothing the beast predicted it could not handle. Then there was Norn, a queen herself, leader of a powerful faction of ruthless and brutal followers. In taking her, it could gain control of her minions as well, put them to excellent use in the war against the nymphs. The others may not have stood out in any particular fashion, but the more bodies it could add to its own, the greater an emperor it would become. Its plans, like those of many before it, would have come to fantastic fruition if not for Maple. Pyrebringer, Soulsinger, gentle conquerer of Phyrexia and thwarter of Norn. If she were born an imperial she too would have been an excellent addition to the plans of the creature-who-would-be-Bark. Her line was prestigious; Norn was her great-aunt! Her grandsire was Reginn, Lord of the Legion, host to power that made entire flights tremble! Were she an imperial herself she would have been its greatest prize. Instead, she was its greatest adversary. The beast had anticipated an easy infiltration. What met it was instead several sets of piercing, knowing eyes. Maple, Mustard, Adder, Snowfury. What manner of monster was she, that Maple could earn the loyalty of a creature such as that? It knew what he was as surely as Snowfury must have known what it was. And rather than reveal the truth, the ghost assassin simply gave it a slow, knowing smile, so unlike the expressionless faces of true fae. It knows Snowfury did not tell Maple what it is. It knows because, years later, he has come to know that she is far more intriguing than he ever gave her credit for. He sought the power of her line, thought he could sway her to his cause, but she has an unbending will that even his could not match. All she has to do to earn one's loyalty is be herself; those she leads will fall under her gentle spell as easily as one might fall asleep. He wanted to destroy her. Instead she named him, accepted him, brought him into her fold of misfits. And to this day he still has no damned idea how she did it. |

The Imperial
Alignment: Malevolent (Beast)
Hosts of the Imperial are perhaps the most intriguing and deadly of the beasts. They are those that will undergo metamorphosis and become the most powerful of demons. However, some plan other agendas besides simply reclaiming their living, demonic forms. Many that inhabit the bodies of Imperials will also choose to live and die beside one another, a quick indication of something being something not quite dragon as the typical Imperial would not remain in such close vicinity to another. Many strive to become stronger even in death in the form of an Emperor, wreaking havoc upon the land, destroying the magic that keeps the landmarks alive, and causing death and destruction as they pass through areas previously not sought out by their own kind. They are deadly and vicious and quite nearly impossible to be bargained with.
