Lazur Academy (Shortened to Laz Academy so often that many people believe that is its actual name) is a prestigious school of magic with a focus on individualism and self-fulfillment. It offers classes on magic development as well as core curriculum classes, like botany and chemistry and math classes no one wants to take but must for the credits. Students attend for four years before graduating.

Magic in this world is an innate talent that can be cultivated over time, though there are those born with inherently stronger magic. In this sense, it is similar to artistic ability. Magical abilities are as unique as the individual who wields them, hence why the Academy must give each student the opportunity to curate a schedule that is beneficial to themself. There is some level of predictability to magic, as there are multitudes of theories and essays published on the different categories and manifestation of abilities. Elemental control, illusionary magic, 'physical' magic (telekinesis, combat magic), and divining are the most common abilities to appear. There are always exceptions, but accommodations can always be made.

One's magic can be lost if they are put through an extreme period of stress or trauma. Regaining one's ability in full is thought to be impossible; as the incredibly few cases where someone has regained their magic has been to only a fraction of their original powers.

Technology is at a rather cherry-picked 1920s-30s level of development. Cars are rare and considered to be annoying at best. Public transit is the much more popular option; most commuters take the city-wide gondola to their place of work.
