Deacon had been demoted not very long after he was brought into Toothwood Traces. Showing disrespect and reluctance towards Downfall and her followers. He was seen as an ungrateful annoyance, however, was eventually given a job he couldn't let slip by, his last chance to stay immortal while he did Downfall's bidding. The task was simple, raise a banescale...
...and so he did. He did for years and years, eventually gaining such a large connection to it that he planned an escape for it. He wanted it to see the world it never got to. Even though the beast didn't want to leave without him, that was the only way for the plan to work. So, the beast escaped one night, leaving Deacon to be executed for his traitorous actions.
