T here's a strange tune upon the air. Its enchanting call beckons to listeners, pulling them in close. . . and never letting them go. This is the tale of the Barghest, Astaroth. |

The entry is written in faded ink, a date scrawled at the top of the page next to a short title that reads "The Music Maker". There's a strange tune that echoes through the desert air. It's a quiet sound that's easy to miss amidst the hum of insects and the loud rumble of an impending storm. It is best heard in the moment of silence when a flash of lightning first splinters across the sky - the gentle tune of a music box tinkering a few nearly silent notes before the sound is drown out by thunder. There are a few accounts of individuals who have investigated the tune. In between the deafening beats of thunder, it can be followed to an old wasteyard. There's nothing much here aside from mountains of piled garbage abandoned amidst the desert. Yet all of these reports describe a strange music box that rests amidst the rubble. Its surface is tattered and covered in silt, the old mirror inside cracked and splintered into fractal-like shards. How such a box can still play its tune is unclear. Some say that the music doesn't truly emanate from the box itself, but from something else lurking amidst the piles of rubble in the junkyard. There are many such waste piles dotting the Shifting Expanse, but no one has officially documented a location that fits the description of this particular site. It could just as well be a mirage.
