Honey
not all there, but ferocious in battle

Mheras found Honey during one of her travels. The old Pearlcatcher was suffering from slight dementia. She couldn't remember where she was or where she was going. But when she saw Mheras, she smiled and said,

"Oh there you are!" Mheras just smiled back and said, "Yes, here I am!"

She helped the old one back to the lair, but everyone had to give her a wide berth because her pearl was charged with electricity (Mheras had already been shocked several times on the trip home...). Everyone except Caerula. Caerula came up to Honey and said,

"May I see it?"

Honey shook her head and drew back slightly, but the tundra could see burn marks on her hands and chest where she was clutching the pearl so tightly and it was shocking her.

"I think I can fix that, so it doesn't shock you," Caerula said to the Pearlcatcher gently. "I can see it is hurting you. I won't harm it, but I think I can make it to where it won't hurt you any more."

Honey looked from Caerula to Mheras, who was sitting nearby. Mheras gave an encouraging nod, and Honey gingerly held the pearl out in her claws. Caerula sent her golem to carefully pick it up and carry it over to her work table. Honey's eyes were wide, but she just sat and watched Caerula go to work. Mheras came up and placed a comforting wing over her shoulder, without fear of being shocked this time.

"Mheras," Caerula said while she worked, "would you go back to that trunk over there and pull out the copper vest and wings? The pearl is fascinating! I have no idea how it is generating energy, but it seems to have its own source. I am putting some connectors on it that will attach to her vest and wings, allowing the electricity a safe path to escape. The really interesting thing is that the electricity can be focused and controlled through the vest, even as a weapon."

Mheras looked up sharply.

"I'm just saying!" said Caerula. "In these times, you never know. Besides, I am not sure Honey even has the mental capacity to harness it at all."

This last part, Caerula said under her breath, not in a mean way, but just as a matter of fact. Honey eyes had not left the pearl since it left her paws. Caerula shrugged her shoulders.

"Here, let's help her into the vest, and then we can give her her pearl back."

So they outfitted the Pearlcatcher with wings, vest, and gloves. Caerula had the golem hold the pearl while she attached the connectors to the vest, then gently put the pearl in the Pearlcatcher's outstretched hands. It was as if she hadn't breathed the entire time the pearl wasn't in her claws, such was the shuddering breath she took when it was finally clutched to her breast. The two tundras led her out of Caerula's tent.

"You might want to take her to one of the healers. She has some pretty bad burns from that pearl," Caerula said.

"Good idea. Isn't that nomad healer a lightning dragon? Maybe he knows what would be good for electrical burns," said Mheras, turning.

Caerula winced. "I don't know, Mheras. Those nomads strike me as a weird bunch. Better off taking her to one of the magic healers."

"Oh don't be silly, Caerula. The nomads are a perfectly fine bunch. I am going to take her to Iasthai, and that is that."

Caerula just shook her head and watched Mheras lead Honey away.

Her head was clearing, day by day. Ever since they got her pearl under control, the memories were slowly coming back. She had left her old, dying clan, and set off into the wilds. There, she was set upon by wild beasts. She and her little winged snake were no match. Her pearl, which has always emitted a slight hum, exploded with energy, killing the beasts and knocking Honey out cold. When she came to, she couldn't remember anything. Her snake curled up limply at her feet. Honey looked around, but nothing looked familiar. The pearl, which was still in her hands, was hurting her terribly, but she couldn't let go, didn't want to let go. She knew she had to hold on to it, no matter how much it hurt her. It was Important. So she wandered, lost this time, and not exploring. He buttersnake had somehow escaped mostly unharmed, so he went out and found insects and brought them back for Honey to eat. After months of living like this, they stumbled upon another dragon, a little green tundra. Honey had never seen her before in her life, but somehow she knew intuitively that this was a friend, someone come to help her.

With her memories coming back, she told Mheras her story of what happened to her. Mheras had a frown upon her normally smiling face. She thanked Honey, and told her she would look into it. In the meantime, Honey started training. She found two unlikely friends, a solemn Skydancer named Bregalad, and the aloof warrior queen, Serahbi. "This one has seen emperors," she thought when she saw the Ridgeback. "Perhaps even her clan used her to quell them." A strange and reticent trio. But they all had one thing in common, a sense for the growing unrest outside the clan that they now call their home. Honey also worked with Caerula to understand her new clothing and how it could help her control the power of the pearl.

Bregalad and Serahbi stared at Honey, who was by far the smallest of the three. She had just taken out a full strength Yeti with one strike. Honey flexed her claws. "I think I've got the hang of this suit now. I should tell Caerula, she'll be excited!" she trilled. The other two shot each other a look. If they ever had any doubts about the forgetful little Pearlcatcher, they were now completely gone.
