Reborn as a follower of Ashtareen, Valerian (formerly Valerian Mengsk of Korhal) has adapted well to being a dragon and greatly enjoys learning about the new world he's been brought to.
Xerxes, former Protoss/Primal Zerg Hybrid, had befriended him after the war against Amon, upon the joint effort of releasing him from one of Amon's prisons. This friendship led Valerian to delve into the history of the Protoss anew, and encouraged him to learn about Ashtareen. The first Human follower of hers in the sector, he soon gained notoriety amongst the Taalrulthians from another realm, which led Samateus to investigating the sector with her kin and their allies. They learned of the ongoing battles against the followers of Amon, the small pockets of resistance that could potentially grow to become a threat and possibly resurrect the 'dark god' a target of the Protoss and their Human allies.
Even Zagara, Broodmother and Queen of the Zerg swarm, showed interest in Ashtareen when she had inquired why the Protoss and Terrans had begun scouting through her territory. Samateus went to greet her in person, enthralled by the massive Leviathans and knowledge of genetics on top of their strategic ability. She wouldn't openly admit around the Protoss, yet she expressed to Zagara that the Zerg had far surpassed the Protoss in the amount of knowledge of Genetics they had available to them and might provide the Protoss with some improvements, but would never dream of suggesting it as she knew the Protoss to be far too proud.
