While Mistflower's actual mate is the Ridgeback Darkscale, if you asked any given member of GaleClan, they'd confidently inform you that her mate is the Spiral Hailflash. That's because the two go out of their way to appear lovey-dovey to those in their Clan, because the fact of the matter is that they're both in half-Clan relationships, Mistflower's mate being in StormClan. She and Hailflash are good friends, but nothing more. Part of the reason this plan works is because Mistflower is well-know for her vicious sense of loyalty. You can't accuse her of leading Hailflash on, she'd never do that to someone!

And, well... they're not wrong. Darkscale, for his part, harbors no doubts about their relationship--if Mistflower says that she and Hailflash are just friends, he doesn't have anything to worry about. It's as simple as that for him.
